I landed two days ago with about 4 thousand dollars cash and my statement of account. The immigration only asked for the amount i carried on me and I told her 4 thousand dollars and she said thats perfect with no further questions. You can carry small amount in cash and the remaining in cashier check if need be. Cashier check will just serve as a proof if per adventure they asked for the total POF (not likely though).

Cheers and happy landing.
Congratulations on your landing...

Can you please tell me the questions which were asked to you by immigration officer after landing? As i am planning for a short landing, i just want to know the questions they ask at the time of landing, like are you coming temporary or permanent? Based on this, will they make our PR cards or will ask to have them processed once we land permanently and for this period, issue us with Travel Document?

Please share your experience soon as my intended plan is in coming may at Calgary Airport.

Hi All,

Just a little confused regarding which Goods should I put under Good accompanying? I am going to Canada for two weeks now only just to do the landing formalities, and will go to actually settle at a later date. Now on this upcoming short trip, I will have two laptops, clothings, accessories, mobile phones, watches, and a bit of jewellery which my wife will wear. But we will bring all this back to our home country after the short trip and will take it again to Canada for our final settlement , so all the items should be put on Goods accompanying??? if we do that then what will happen when we come back to Canada the second time? And if we mention these items on Goods to follow? will the custom officer allow us to take this with us now?

Also, our clothing is all used clothing and nothing new with tags, CSBA can charge customs on these as well if not mentioned in the Goods list ???

Dear Forum ppl.. :)

Finally I did my landing in ottowa (YOW). I came from USA. It took only 3 mins to complete all the formalities. The immigration officer only asked about my address , he did not give any form to fill up :'( then he asked some formal questions like whether i convicted for any crime or not ... I kept my fund details in immigration form which I got from the plane .. so he did not bother to ask or look further ..

I was really surprised to have such a quick landing ..

thanks to all the forum ppl.. :)

Guys,

I sent an email to CSBA with the same questions I raised here. Based on their reply I dont think I have to make any list of Goods for this upcoming short landing, below is the reply from CSBA, very clear reply, I will print a copy of this email and keep with me at my landing if needed.

"A settler describes all who enter Canada with the intention of establishing a residence for the first time and for a period of not less than 12 months. Persons entering Canada to become Permanent Residents without the intention of residing immediately in Canada are not considered Settlers to Canada since they do not have any intention of remaining in Canada at that time, and will live outside Canada for an undetermined period of time. Therefore, under customs legislation, these persons are considered visitors to Canada, even if they are Permanent Residents for immigration purposes.

Before you settle in Canada, you must prepare two copies of a list, preferably typed, detailing all household and personal goods you are bringing into the country. Your list should describe the goods, giving such details as the value, make, model, and serial number of each item, particularly high-value items. Please note that we require the current value of goods, not the replacement value. The list should be divided into two parts, showing which items are accompanying the owner at the time of arrival and which items are to arrive at a later date as “goods to follow.”

For general household items such as books or clothing, a group listing and overall value is sufficient (e.g., kitchen utensils – $000). Since jewellery is difficult to describe accurately, it is best to use the wording from your insurance policy or jeweller's appraisal and to include photographs that have been dated and signed by the jeweller or a gemologist. This information makes it easier to identify the jewellery when you first enter Canada, and later if you return from a trip abroad with this jewellery.

When you arrive in Canada you will have to give your list of goods to the border services officer, even if you do not have the goods with you at the time. Based on the list of goods you submit the officer will complete Form B4 or BSF186, Personal Effects Accounting Document, for you, assign a file number to your B4 or BSF186 form, and give you a copy of the completed form as a receipt. You will need to present your copy of the form to claim free importation of your unaccompanied goods when they arrive.

Memorandum D2-2-1, Settlers' Effects - Tariff Item No. 9807.00.00, provides information about the B4 or BSF186 forms for people settling in Canada. It can be found at:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d2/d2-2-1-eng.html

Should you require additional assistance with your inquiry, we recommend that you contact the Border Information Service (BIS). You can access the BIS line free of charge throughout Canada by calling 1-800-461-9999. If you are calling from outside Canada, you can access the BIS line by calling either 204-983-3500 or 506-636-5064 (long-distance charges will apply). If you call during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, except holidays), you can speak to an officer by pressing “0” at any time after you have made a selection of either English or French.

Thank you for contacting the Canada Border Services Agency."

Hi Friends,
I am planning to visit Canada from USA, for 2-3 days, to complete my landing formality. I have few doubts related to landing process & ll really appreciate if someone can guide on these:
(1) Can we show "US Bank Account statements" as Proof of funds at Canada port of entry? As I will be visiting for only 2-3 days & ll stay at my relatives, is it enuf to carry 500$ Canadian in cash and show the required settlement funds proof using US Bank statements!
(2) I don't think, I have to fill/provide: Goods Accompanying List. and Goods to Follow list(Form B4 / B4A) for this upcoming short landing trip?
(3) When I will re-enter USA from Canada, will I get a new I94# number or it will the same existing one? Any difference in process for CANADA-US travelers?
Please guide!!! Thanks much!!

FD in INR will be mostly rejected as pof while landing. YOu should have it in USD/CAD.
Either have it with you as cash plus/Travellers Cheque or put it in a Canadian bank.

Or, postpine your journey. ;)

But there is nowhere in CIC mentions, you need to bring POF in CAD,.

CIC says
"Acceptable proof of funds are:

bank accounts in your name or the name of your accompanying spouse/common-law partner;
cash-able investments in your name or the name of your accompanying spouse/common-law partner;
cash-able fixed deposits in your name of the name of your accompanying spouse/common-law partner.
"

CIC also says

"What do I need to bring to Canada with me ?

You are not required to carry your funds in cash when you arrive in Canada. You are, however, required to show documentary evidence that you have the funds available (in bank accounts or cash-able investments), and that they can be transferred to Canada.

A port of entry officer in Canada may seek to confirm these funds before granting you permanent residence along with your dependents.
"

Seniors please clarify here,..

Buvi,

I had similar query as I am planning to land there by 1st of May. I sent an email to CIC asking them if I can just show bank statement from a bank in my current place of residence (Qatar), and they replied to me that the bank statment should be sufficient. Now I will just print this email from them and take my bank statement with me as POF. You can also try asking them

I want to know following information for landing:

(1) Which bridge is better Peace or Rainbow?

(2) Does Peace bridge also has an option to cross the bridge on foot?

(3) How to proceed for flagpolling with a Canadian baby? Will the baby also get the administrative refusal?

(4) If taking car (assuming to enter USA with valid visa), is there any paper work to do for car?

(5) While entering to USA , will I also have to face Canadian immigration? and same while returning will I face USA immigration? If I am not facing USA immigration on return, how will I return I-94 card?

(6) What are the near places to visit after entering to USA (Rainbow and Peace bridge sides) and spend few hours there and then come back for landing?

Thank you.

Hello Guys,

I read some where in this forum about one guy who was moving from US to canada (working in US on work visa) to complete his Canada PR landing process. Unfortunately on the border (i guess on road), he was denied to enter and his PR cancelled.

People here started suggesting that you should pretend to be a PR in canada. So, guys what do you think you should tell to officer at the border if he will ask "Are you planning to return US..?"

Keep in mind form B4/B4A also should be filled up to show one indirect proof that we are seriously thinking to move Canada. but how to answer officer here...? I do not think we should say No.

Any idea/help..?

Regards,
