Re: Experience with Landing with a B4 or a goods to follow?

Anybody?

kunal999 said:
Hi,
Does anyone have experience with completing the Landing procedures but without the B4 list or goods to follow?
My wife and I are planning to land, however we are not yet ready to move permanently to Canada. I asked the Border Information Services and confirmed that in that case I do not need to bring a B4 or a goods to follow list. I can do those later when I am ready to move permanently.

I just wanted to know the experience of someone who has done the same.

Thanks,
Kunal

I hope you have researched all this and are not taking people's word for it. Free clinics can only help as long as there is no complication. In case of complications you will need to be moved to a hospital and that is going to cost you money. It would be better to move to a province like Alberta where you will get medical coverage from day 1.

Don't worry, there are many landlords who will waive this requirement for new immigrants. You just need to talk to them on the phone or do a face-to-face. Once people see the settlement funds in your Canadian bank account they will not cause much problem.

Yes. However not all landlords are that flexible, but you will still find many options.

There are some that require 6 months rent in advance, however it is illegal and you can go to court and get the money back from them later.

What do you mean by 'Health Assistance' ?

Alberta has the same health insurance plan (health cards) as Ontario, except you are eligible from day one of landing in Canada versus 3 month wait period in Ontario.

Regards,
SORRY, I meant AHCIP, from DAY 1 after landing.

I have gone through the website before and was thinking, how I could provide RESIDENCY/ GOVT ISSUED PHOTO IDENTIFICATION at AB health office on DAY 1 after landing , for getting myself registered for AHCIP.
I did read some where else, that everyone who lands in AB gets a Health number straight away, to avail the medical service. and if one doesn't gets his/her number they can pay for the services and reimburse later.

You can prove your PR with your landing papers and use your passport as a photo ID. You do however have to provide proof that you are residing in AB. This can be a utility bill or a bank statement. Some people have solved this by going to a bank, opening an account and asking for a printed statement right away.

If you are unable to register right away and have an emergency and must see a doctor, you can pay cash and request a refund from AB health later.

Thanks Leon, I'll look into the Bank statement option.
