Hi,

I am planning complete landing formalities in July 1st week by road from U.S .

Planning to stay for a week and come back to U.S again by road.

My questions are.

1.We have a car(Auto loan) with valid insurance papers .Are we allowed to drive in to Canada ? any specific documentation required for this ?

2.I am not so clear with AVR. Is it applicable for L1 &L2 holders also ??. We dont want our I94 to change while entering back to U.S

Please suggest urgent

1 - There is a lot of information on this issue on forums, please refer to them for further info. But in short, you can be fine entering Canada with your own car, but don't be surprised to pushed to import right away even though you can visit with your own car. Better to drive a rental car, and be fine.

2- In general, if your visa for the US expired, and you use AVR; you don't get new I94 record. You don't get a new I94 card anymore at all. But your record that you can check online will show nothing as if you didn't exit.

You second point is not true. Now that the US does not issue paper i 94's anymore, your exit and entry ARE recorded. But you can still use AVR, just show them an expired Visa with a valid i 797 and you should technically get admitted until your i 797 expires. But do remember that you need to visit for less than 30 days and not have gone to any third country.

Nope, it doesn't with AVR. Point of case happened to my family a month ago. No record of I94 showing exit and entrance. If you are not familiar with AVR process, please don't comment on it.

I didn't say you cannot get admitted with AVR. But your I94 remains same (when it was paper), and no record in online system, technically as if you didn't exit and reentry.

Your point is not true either. The US does issue paper I94's.

I am also planning to complete my landing procedure using AVR but via Air, is this possible.

I visited Canada in 2012 and went for US Visa Interview before returning back to US. Visa was granted for a Year which is now expired however i do have a valid 797 which expires in 2017.

Since the US visa was granted in Canada and I did visit my home country after that using this visa, i am not sure if i will be eligible to use AVR rule.

I know i can always go for the visa interview in Canada after my landing procedure is complete however don't want to do so if not required.

Please suggest!

Thanks in advance
