Hello guys (and gals),

I'm landing in the last week of May 2018 as permanent resident from India. I belong to a special category province (state) in India, and hence I am exempt from filing Income Tax. I do not possess a PAN (This is an Indian Tax account number required for filing taxes), as it is never required in my case. The Income Tax Department refused to provide any sort of tax exemption/clearance certificate to me, and asked me to quote the corresponding tax exemption clause in the Indian Income Tax Act - 1961 (Section 10, Clause 26 AAA) if required. I am wondering if this creates any problem in Canada, when I file taxes as a newcomer.

1. What sort of tax credentials from your country of origin is required after I move to Canada? I plan to settle permanently.
2. Are tax clearance, PAN, etc. required at the Immigration Clearance in Indian Airports for a person leaving India for good, with intent to settle down permanently in Canada (or any other country)?

Kindly share your experiences.
