Hi all,

I'll be landing in Toronto next month, staying there for 3 weeks and coming back to my country of residence.
I'm gonna apply for my first SIN card and have this very simple query:

In the application form (NAS-2120) there is the question "Are you currently residing in Canada?"

- Should I just say YES, even if I'm not going to settle now? Would this cause a problem later if they find out I'm not actually residing?
- If it's better to tell the truth and mark NO, will they send the SIN card anyway to the address I write on the form? (it's an address in Ontario province)

Thanks for your input!

The answer is Yes when you apply in person at Services Canada office.

Hi PMM,

Thanks a lot !!! :)

first of all no need to fill any application for sin card as well for PR card ,PR card will be processed at the point of entry (airport, boarder etc) on the basis of COPR and sin card on the basis of Landing paper, that is filled COPR forms by CBSA officer.

When u vl apply sin card they will give u empty slip to fill the parents full name and address, that’s it no need to carry any application.
Sin card takes 15 to 20 days, so im sure u vl get it before u leave.

in case u wanna open bank account then no need for SIN card, they just need two ids so use passport and landing papers but bank need SIN no to update your details with credit history company.

or apply for the SIN when you re-enter Canada using your PR card (necessary when re-entering Canada after your first landing) and are going to look for a place to live and start looking for jobs etc.

a SIN is only necessary when you decide to stay and live in Canada. :)

shekhawatmx and CharlotteJ,

Many thanks for the information!

So, no need to fill out more forms and actually no need to even apply for a SIN card... well, that makes things really easy then.

Kind regards!
