Hi guys, me and my wife has received our passport request last week. We applied through Quebec and hence the port of entry will be MOntreal.

I am working in UK and would like to continue here for 6 more months. Is it possible for us to land there, apply for our PR card, and fly back to UK to finish off my commitmet before we start settling in Canada?

I read somewhere that there is a fast track process to get the PR card. Has anyone came along this process? We can stay only upto 3 weeks maximum once we land there.

I would really appreciate any help on this.

No fast track process. Im guessing your PR visa is valid for 1 year? In that case you may just want to wait the 6 months and then move to Canada once your UK commitment is complete. I say this because Canada has a 2/5 year residency obligation, so there is no hurry to "activate" your PR.

If you want to go now you most certainly can. You will need a Canadian address where the PR card can be sent. Then the recipient (either a friend or family member) can post it to you. It takes around 60 days to get the card.

As per previous post no fast track process as such although if already a PR and renewing there are special very exceptional circumstances but not generally for new PRs given the expectation is that people come to Canada to stay long enough to get a card through the standard process

If you go ahead and do your landing then get the card sent to a friend who can then forward it to you in the UK. Otherwise you will need to apply for a PRTD to come back if you don’t have a friend with a Canadian address. As you plan to be back in the UK for 6 months that’s plenty of time to get a PRTD

Thank you for the response rish888, much appreciated. Yes, if I can get 1 year to land, that's ok, but (worst case) if i get less than 6 months, I need to make sure things will work even if I leave Canada in 2-3 weeks after landing there.

I can arrange an address where the PR card can be send (as you said friends' or relatives'). I would like to know if the immigration office will ask myself or my wife to show up in person (for biometrics, photograph etc) during the PR card processing.

Thank you for the response BS65, yes I do have some contacts in Canada where the PR card can be sent. I would like to know if the immigration office will ask myself or my wife to show up in person (for biometrics, photograph etc) during the PR card processing. Once we leave Canada, and they ask us to show up in person, we will be in trouble.!

You will not "be in trouble." Sometimes there is an issue with photos and you need to resend them or sometimes they may ask you to come and collet it in person. Most of the time though (especially for new PR's) they just mail it to your address.

Worst case you can get a PRTD from the Canadian High Commission in London through VFS. Average processing time is around 1 week. Then once in Canada you can reapply for your PR card.

Oh that's great, I can plan everything now as per my convenience.

Thanks again.
