If anyone is trying to apply for a temporary visitors visa my advice to them is to get a letter drawn up by a notoray public or lawyer (but they charge too much) when i first met my hubby we actually met in NYC cuz he already had his US visa after i spent a week with him in NY we went to manhattan and applied for a visitors visa at the canadian embassy he got approved for 6 months on the spot, he gave the officer the invitation letter, he showed plenty of proof that he will be going back to JA to return to his home and job, he had a letter from his manager stating his position and salary, proof of his car insurance, bank accounts, house bills etc. The officer was a nice lady and asked me a couple of questions. He stayed with me for a month.
As soon as that one expired he went to kg to get another TRV with another lawyer letter and this one lasted for 5yrs. In these letters we did not state that we were engaged even though we got engaged 5 months after meeting each other for the first time. We had to let them know that we were just friends. His sister also had no problems getting through she came up for our wedding in april this year I actually wrote the letter myself and got it notorized for $50 or 60 dollas no questions no hassle 5yr visa but she had to return a week later to pick it up.

Quick question anyone. If children are on the application that are not the biological children of the sponsor, does the process usually takes longer? Does anyone have this type of experience?

Kimore... Short answer, a application thru kgn with takes longer than average... It's not the only thing that can hold a file up, and there's not a lot of rhyme or reason to it (other than two medical results to evaluate really), but it just seems to be the way it is... I suspect that things will get worse moving forward with the new regulations as the parent may be required to justify why the child is on the application (ESP if he/she generally resides with the other biological parent... Those suspected of immigrating a child simply so the child can have a better lifestyle could find their applications refused...) that shouldn't matter if the app was received before sept 30

For those interested I did post a separate thread about the new regulations and children on applications... I have no idea if they will scrutinize parent child relationships but I wouldn't put it by them... Let's see if anyone has any idea ( I'll admit I only know the gist of the new regulations, so I'm hoping those who have read them in detail can elaborate..)

I'm hoping this doesn't impact people with children, esp the real daddies out there trying to hold things down... But CiC is just too much sometimes so I guess it could be possible... And the more I think about the problems *some* Jamaican yute have created in Canada (Toronto specifically) I'd say if CIC can work this angle to try to reduce those problems I wouldn't put it past them... Lord the problems that those who abuse the system deliver to the rest is depressing... I digress.. I hope I'm wrong! I'll post a link when I get to my laptop... Too lazy right now!!

Kimmore I think people with Kids on the file takes longer, Most if not all of the cases on here with kids on file have taken over a year to process,

Lonely, Rosie, Soanxious, Penitent, Me, Maple all over a year and over.

Chelly I dont think these new regulations are as big a deal as they are being made out to be. I read somewhere that they are not new in fact, In the past thats the way it was but people protested against it because people in Quebec only had to prove one of the two. Now for some reason they are changing it back. I am not sure if its for all of Canada or if Quebec is excluded.

If this affect children on file I think it will only be cases where people adopt family members and then sponsor them in order to get into Canada. I think it would be difficult to find grounds to deny people sponsoring their biological child no matter what the relationship has been.


No clue why I am up so early on a Saturday.

jammy... yes the regulations will make adoption (esp intra-family adoption) more difficult...

I hope i'm just overthinking it when it comes to the nature of the relationship between the child to parent!...

playing devils advocate here, they don't guarentee residency when biological children are involved BETWEEN the couple (heard a number of cases of couples that shared children that were denied), so what's to say that they'll guarentee residency to a child to keep ties to one parent if it potentially breaks both ties and bonds with the other? Canada has a strong (but not so much spoken) rule about keeping children with mothers (a large majority of family court cases favour to the mother), so why would the immigration be pulling a child from a custodial mother to immigrate them with a non-custodial father for any reason other than "to give them a better life"... new or not, the interpretation of this rule by a VO could be problematic if they aren't restricted from applying it to biological children... if they cannot then its simple and a total non-issue... if there is no stipulation/restriction and it's discretional, well lets just hope they do so sporatically and with good (no, with great) cause and it doesn't impact everyone applying with children... the whole process is hard enough on the couple, never mind if there are children in limbo throughout it

The situation with my hubby is he is the primary care giver, the mother is not around, she is in the country but does not take care of the kids, hubby does that. Works full time and takes care of his kids full time, i admire him so much. I hope, our situation works out positively. Thanks again
