Youre welcome..

One in Runaway Bay, one in Mobay....booking based on minimum of 2 nights.

Book online, as in person its more expensive - at least that what i was told when i called the hotel.

Okay! Will do. Although now I'm not sure if hubby will want to go that far. We're in Portland...4 hour drive to Mobay. But! It's good to have options!

Thank you Anada for this!! We're looking for somewhere to go for a night or two. The price is right! I'm going to look into this. Is it in Ochi?

just so you know Jamaica Grande has a special going on untill December where if u spend two nights u get it 75us per night...i live in Ocho Rios,so if u r interesting I can check it out for you....I work with Sandals/Beaches very pricey though but really nice...Jamica Grande has a water slide and pool is not bad.....right in the heart of Ocho so u wouldnt need a cab to go anywhere in Ocho.

Hey DG!! Welcome to Canada and happy settling in! :D

One way you can build your credit record is to get a secured credit card. Secured means that you would have to deposit a specific amount with the bank, like $500 (some will do less) and you will receive a credit card with a limit equal to the amount of your deposit. You then use the card, pay your balances on time, and that helps to build your credit rating. For example, you would then be able to get a cell phone (most companies won't let you get a phone plan without a credit card) and as you go along and pay the phone bill with the card, then pay off the card balance, this helps to build your credit.

Remember to time your purchases advantageously, by making purchases so they will show on your next statement, not the one that is due in a couple of days, so make sure you know the cut-off date when your statement is issued. Also, as far as possible, pay off the balance. Do not get sucked into the trap of paying only the minimum payment due.

Thanks Charlie,

«my hubby and i went to scotia bank as we heard that they have programme for newcomers where we would open an account and get an unsecured credit card, but they gave my son a card and refuse to give us saying that they need reference letter from our bank in jamaica as our funds was not declared on the landing papers. We land in toronto and thats where the landing papers were process, wonder why is that and son did not lodge anything in his account and he is not working yet

Well, they tend to be somewhat easier on young people, because they wouldn't have as much time to build a history. Do remind him to be careful with that card, it's easy for young people to use credit, not so easy to remember that they need to have money to pay the bills when they come!

I wonder why they would tell you that about your money? The law says you only need to declare your funds if you bring $10,000 in cash into the country. Please tell me you didn't walk about with that kind of currency on you! Hmm, I wonder if because you are MPNP the rules are different? I am not sure. Anywho, get in touch with your bank in Jamaica, I am sure they might be willing to provide references. You might need to authorize someone to act on your behalf to request it.
