Danielle902, there are lots of reputable, knowledgeable consultants out there. Have a look at the membership listing for the ICCRC, you can search by city for regulated consultants. https://www.iccrc-crcic.ca/public/membershiplistFull.cfm

I would also endorse Jamgirl's statement, most of us here did it on our own. With time, focused effort and careful attention to the details, you can organize your own application and save yourself the fees. However, if you decide you want to use a consultant, I recommend using someone from the ICCRC list. Not everyone who calls themselves an immigration consultant is worth the paper they are written on. Also, as Jamgirl said, using a consultant will not make your application go any faster or get you any preferred treatment.

Congrats Ali... Green is the Color!!!!

KGN is on the move with you, your in the end zone now!!!!

THNX!!!!! :P

Also to add,

When you hire a consultant/lawyer to help you, usually you add this person as a representative on your app and sign a form allowing immigration to contact him/her with all correspondence. In my opinion, from what I have seen on other threads in this forum, this can become a problem later in the processing. If your filing is taking too long, all inquiries now have to go through the consultant/lawyer, and if they start replying to you infrequently or not at all, it can become very frustrating as it seems what little control you have over your own filing now becomes non-existent. I may not be 100% right on these facts as I have not hired one myself, but this seems to be a problem that does occur and just wanted to make you aware during your decision making time.

Thank you for your advice.
Yes I am Canadian and my husband is Jamaican.
I was searching through a website, and saw a picture of what a completed i package looks like. Mine looks nothing like that. and thats why i got worried. Is there a government office that i can go to, to make sure all info is filled out to satisfaction? Ive got all the booklets from the canadian immigration site filled out and pictures, as well as "credit top ups" any money transfers from him to me or me to him... my old passport with all my travel dates, our marriage certificate... what else ?

their package that the consultant place looks HUGE!
Also how important is the Family info names and places they are born and stuff im afraid i might not have all the correct information

Bahh!!!

Quality is important, and you should have a sufficient quantity of supporting documents to go with the application. Double check everything you have with the checklists for sponsor and applicant to ensure you have everything needed, this is the minimum requirement.

Over and above the minimum, you also need to address any potential "red flags" regarding your relationship, such as age differences that favour the female or a large age difference in general, a short dating/courtship period, etc. Make sure you deal with them upfront and provide clear explanations for why any of these things don't matter within the context of YOUR relationship.

Finally, take a look at OP2 (start from section 5.25), and get an idea of some of the supporting documents they are looking for in a genuine relationship and measure what you have against that. Don't look at the picture of the other application, look at yours and ask yourself, "Would a complete stranger, knowing nothing about us, believe what we tell them about our marriage based on the documents I have included?"

good evening friends.

danielle even before I glanced at the paperwork I wanted to hire a consultant, and was willing to dish out $5000 I didnt have, thankfully I found this place at the same time I was contemplating hiring someone, I even met with a consultant and he gave me paperwork to fill out, paperwork I still have and now when I look back that paperwork he gave me was exactly every single question that is on the actual immigration application, so you would already be doing all the work, they would just transfer it onto the application...
my file I sent off was small & thin, my pictures were done on a collage thanks to walmart - I didnt send in Every single bit of correspondence , i sent phone bills for every 3 months just to show it was continuous , I sent a one page cover summing up how we met, when we married, and why we love each other along with the application...i made mine simple, guess I took a chance. I didnt want to over do it! Not saying anyone did...I just kept it simple

I copied a wedding card I got from my best friend and one from my mother and daughter, just so they had a chance to see what my family wished for us.

I got a letter from my bank manager basically for my character I have been loyal, blah blah and they welcome an account to hubby when he arrives.

but really my pkg, did not look like any I have seen...so put your heart and soul into it, and the words just flow...you can do this, not saying it was easy...took me 4 months if i had to do it tomorrow all over again it would take a couple days i'm sure. The best part of this long freakin process is you got us!! A really great group here!! welcome!

Ali, girl..u look good in green! ;)

I am ticking off the days too, every day I look at my lists and think, what else? Just basically working off my notice now, I have to make sure things look good before I walk away from the jobs. Other than that, I need to get some boxes and bubble wrap or packing peanuts, and then the packing starts. (Hubby is still commenting on the pictures being on the wall and not in a box yet. :P )
