I know that it takes approx 6 weeks to receive the PR card after you land. I also know that you can apply for your SIN# and receive the # same day (card comes in mail). So I am guessing you can either use visa stamp, or landing officer gives you a form, or you need neither and you can just apply...

Yes, I kno how to get a sin #, I just need to know if you have to have the actual pr card to apply.

thats what I am trying to say... If it is custom to not receive the PR card until landed for approx 6 weeks, and people are getting SIN# before that time, then the obvious answer is NO you do not need PR Card to receive SIN #

Mrs, you do not need the PR card, take in your PP and another form of ID and you get your number the same day, SIN card takes 2-3 weeks to arrive

Evening, everyone!

Jahlove, canucko469, thanks guys! Canuck, hubby and I thrashed out an arrival date and he said "Not one minute more!" haha! I think those mirrors are already up! ;D ;D

Anada, please see below some information I posted last month when I went to re-do my PCC about the new locations:

1) You may now pay the fees at ANY Inland Revenue Collectorate island-wide. You need your Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and the fees ($2000 for express/5 business days service or $1000 for regular/21 business days service), nothing else.

2) There are now 4 locations to have the fingerprinting done, so no more tripping to Kingston if you live out west, centrally or on the north coast! You may get the fingerprints done at:
Summit Police Station, St. James
May Pen Police Station, Clarendon
Pompano Bay, Area 2 Police Headquarters, Tower Isle, St. Mary
Technical Services Division, 34 Duke Street, Kingston

Remember that you need your passport, 2 passport-sized photos and your receipt to get the fingerprints done, and you have to collect the PCC from the same location.

Mrslwsn, and anyone else who is wondering, no you don't need the actual PR card to get your SIN #. You need your ID (passport with cancelled PR visa will do), and your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) form. You may apply as soon as you land and get the number, the SIN card will arrive in the mail after.

Suki - Here is a link for where your hubby goes to get his driving record. You can email them your queries: http://www.mtw.gov.jm/general_information/contacts.aspx I think they should have the usual government hours of 8:30 to 5:00 Mon-Thurs and 8:30 to 4:00 on Fridays.

I am so excited KG got your hubby's package! Any day now to get it back, woot!

Awww thx relaxg...

So I am about to start cuss again...hubby just talk a bunch *^&&&(*^%%^& in my ears bout by summer he will be here.....I cannot even imagine why he would delay this??? I could understand if he had loose ends but he really doesnt, his car can go to his sis, he is making next to no money now since he got laid off, then they closed the mobay dealership, and he started working for himself...all he does is get up go down to the garage and wait for customers, sometimes he only make no more than 1000.00 a day (he is a licensed mechanic) this is foolishness, now I am aggravated, can u guys imagine we get thru so damn quick and he is going to lay lay...sorry but im pis$$ed

Did he give reasons (other than work) why he wants to delay his arrival, Mrslwsn? Maybe he wants to try and save up some money, resettling isn't cheap and he probably realizes that and doesn't want to start off being an additional bunch of expenses for you. Men can be odd about things like that, especially when they are used to being independent and funding their own way.

It took some negotiating for me to work out my landing date with my husband, LOL. Left up to him, I would have quit my job today and spend the time between submitting my PP and getting it back packing up my apartment and closing my clients' accounts! I, on the other hand, have decided to give proper notice to my clients, organize some time at home with my Mom and just generally make sure I leave in good standing with others. I reminded him I am emigrating, not burning my bridges, haha!

Tell your hubby to use the time wisely. I think he is going to be surprised at how quickly the time moves now, so he should not leave everything to the last minute, but get going on what he needs to do to leave.

Thanks for the welcome :D :D :D

To answer about Montego Bay Police Station (Summit) its on Delisser Drive or rather Sunset Blvd. right infront Hotel Glorianna. If the person is going by taxi, take an airport taxi and tell them you coming off at Summit, if driving, when they get into mobay take Bottom road and drive like they're going to the airport, they will see the sign.

Mrslwsn I think your husband is scared. I have a feeling he didnt expect the process to be so fast so to get up and leave all he's ever know can be scary. Give him his time. He'll be persuaded by his family to go. You'll have him soon.

Tintin is right Mrslwsn, sometimes you want something but when you do get it, it scares you. Especially if its something you never thought could happen to you. Sooner or later (hopefully sooner) he will realise this is an amazing opportunity, I think it would help him even more if he met another man who has migrated to share with him the joy of being in Canada.

I don't know if this will work but also gently remind him that you guys can now be together wholly without you having to travel back and forth.

Hope that helped at least a little.

Yes you are right Sheri!! I meant to answer this from yesterday but got busy...Keep going past Toby's and if yu reach the roundabout you have gone too far..if coming from airport it on left hand side on Sunset Blvd, if coming from bottom rd (Gloucester ave) it on right.

@ Charlie, Sheri Tintin and everyone, yes I know he is scared, I highly doubt his family will encourage him though, and the money thing does weighs on his mind..HOWEVER, his money has gone down soooo much and he struggles so much and likes to be strong n proud, and suffer. If it was first time where he was working at his dealership, and had soooooo many customers then yes..cuz he even mentioned that about his clients, but still..I mean we been waiting 5 years for this. I feel have the right to be a lil bit pee'd off.
