Kedeisha: I am fine thank you, its a bit overcast out here but nice.

good morning everyone!

kedeisha - have the medical and police check done as close to the date you file your application as possible because they expire 1 year from the date they are done. You also have to have the medical done for the child and submitted with the app.

so the closer the better i was thinking can the do it late July early august as I will be sending my application when i return home in september after i get married

Kedisha... i'd probably suggest doing the medicals a few weeks after the wedding... if the wedding is September 4, unless you have connections or work with a good coordinator, you probably will not have your certificate until mid-October... even if all the other paperwork is ready to go (tricky but doable), that one will hold you up and doing your medicals too soon will make a re-do more likely...

chelley's right kedeisha....it took 6 weeks for me to get my wedding certificate (the wedding co-ordinator said I'd have it in 4) we got married Mar 30/10 and I filed the application May 18/10. So perhaps you should plan on submitting the end of October to early November

Good morning everyone!

Congrats C-I-Jam togirl and I know I am forgetting someone. Kingston do your stuff man! it is almost like they want to get through 2010 applications before summer so they can go to the beach LOL I am alsmost afraid to look at the list, I am not ready in the least if we got a call, my closets look like they threw up!

Big up to Charlie and Nae-Nae and Chelly you guys always answer our questions and settle our fears a big thank you for being here, this forum has really helped me and I know it helps others.

Cant wait for the 20th LWife I will be there by myself!

awww thanks randysgirl :) maybe something will come through for you by the 20th of june... never say never!

like nae, we were told a month for the certificate, our coordinator must have pulled strings or something because we got it the first week of June (less than 3 weeks), but from what i've heard, 6 weeks is the norm... i've actually heard nightmare stories of people waiting for 6 months, but that happens less and less these days i think....

We got our marriage certificate in less than 2 weeks, we must have been really lucky.

PHEW ok thanks for all the wise answers will hold off on that 1 less stress for me to worry about...
at the medical appt is a birth certificate mandatory for the child as ID as her grandma in the USA is preparing to file for her and she is gonna need the birth certificate and I am wondering if she gets a passport can that be good ID for him to take with her

Randysgirl luck was for sure on your side

Stepson arriving in Toronto airport TOMMORROW!

Hello,
My boyfriend was approved to sponsor his son from Jamaica and everythings all done now. He arrives at Pearson airport in Toronto tommorrow . I'm wondering what to expect, what should we take with us? What should the family there send with him? There isnt much guidance from CIC after things have been approved.

Any advice? ::)
So excited! ;D

Hey you guys, i am so thinking about iambless right now, i would really like to hear the good news honey.

canadajamaica tell them to pack things that would make the transition easy depending on the airline u r allowed 2 luggae use both so that he can have his favorite toy for example depends on age

IAMBLESS giel give us some good news no plz i hope they did a PPR request same day so the wait is now 2 weeks and she n her hubby will be reunited

canadajamaica.... congrats to your boyfriend, must be a good feeling to have his son with him soon... other than the passport and COPR (conformation of PR paperwork he should have gotten with the visa), he should probably have the travel letter saying he can 1) travel unaccompanied if he is a minor and 2) has permission to leave the country to the father, from the mother (or whatever court documents might exist around custody)...

other than that it's a fairly simple process, hopefully he's not too young to be intimidated by it, the custom officers are a bit brash at times, but it's really just a technicality to answer some landing questions... he should know what his address in Canada will be, contact information (full name/phone number of his father) and other basic information that was asked on the application (simple things, like his age, his grade ect)... for an older child most of these questions will be simple, but if he's younger his family may want to prepare him for the questioning...

Also, it's an obvious one to us, but make sure they don't send any alcohol with him unless he's over 19! :)

hope that helps

CharlieD10 question for u or anyone else that has knowledge since u mentioned it will we have to go thru another DNA test meaning does every child that is on application are they subjected to a DNA or is that only for ones that are accompanying

Step son coming tommorrow!

Thanks for the replies already. There is no mother in the picture, so I think I'll just take all the copies of the application with us to the airport with all the letters from people confirming there's no mother. He is 9 years old BTW. He doesnt even know he's leaving JA yet. He knew, but we told him it was cancelled because he was telling his teachers he doesnt have to do his work because he would "soon go a foreign to be with him daddy!" lol ~ Any other experiences with having a child this age immigrate - recommendations, things to consider? :)

(they're telling him today just so you guys know)
