Lonely, you should get your PR card 30-40 days after you land so depending on when in June the wedding is he should have it back

Does anyone have info on this???

Eligibility
Ontario residents are eligible for provincially funded health coverage (OHIP). Generally, to be eligible for Ontario health coverage you must :

•be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or among one of the newcomer to Canada groups who are eligible for OHIP as set out in Ontario’s Health Insurance Act ; and
•be physically present in Ontario for 153 days in any 12-month period; and
be physically present in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately after establishing residency in the province; and
•make your primary place of residence in Ontario.

OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario. The ministry strongly encourages new and returning residents to purchase private health insurance in case you become ill during the OHIP waiting period.

Would this mean that the 153 days after he lands he would need to be present in the country to get his health card?? I was under the impression it was 90 days?? What if he leaves for a week before he receives the card, would he be penalized and have to restart from scratch the wait when he returns???

For OHIP coverage you need to be a resident for 90 days... There is no stipulation to stay in the country for that 90 days in entirety, you will need to demonstrate an ontario address and residency status (and his own identity :) )

So he can land and then return for the wedding for a week or two with no repercussions as far as Ontario health is concerned... He shouldn't leave for too long, but short visits would be fine...

The time reporting aspect of the requirement is sort of on the honour system... I had my health benefits revoked for 3m when i returned from living in the US... They had no idea I was out of country, but I was trying to get a health card for my 8m old daughter who was born in the US... She started asking for my proof of residency, so I was pretty screwed...

When we lived in Jamaica we didnt report that time to health canada... Just changed addresses in a kiosk when we returned and no issues (knock on wood)... I believe we fell *just* within their timeframe for coverage, but they can be jerks so I'd avoid arguing any sort of case with them if possible!!!

Funny thing, EI cares not where you are for the entire year they offer mat leave... They even have an out of countries claims office (who obviously do not talk to health Canada) :)

Our govt is funny

I was wondering if anyone is intersted in having a link up. I know we were discussing it a few months ago. It would probably have to be in the toronto area as that seems most central to alot of us in Ontario. It would be great to meet some people who have gone through or are going through this sometimes painful process... anyone interested? anyone have any suggestions?? I apologize for those that are not close by (like Alberta lol) I live in Collingwood but would be happy to drive to TO. Hope everyone is having a good week.

I can onlyy check my ecas with my client # would it matter if I can get the number that starts with "B" (whats it called btw?) I emailed my immigration guy for any other numbers pertaining to our file. I have a KIT ID# (12 numbers) not sure what that is/ for...

randysgirl... I am down for a link up I was waiting for hubby to get here to plan one... I was planning to do it at the end of the summer do something like an outing with kids and all... I was hoping for something like a big piknik or potluck or something like that... unless everyone wants to go to a restaurant... we can always do something sooner than that... i just thought it would be nice to wait a few more months for more reunions to happen lol since a lot of the members that are often on the forum most dont have the partners with them now... just a thought...

randys girl - my husband's B# never worked, even after he landed. It doesn't matter because you can see all the same information with your client ID number. I worried about the same thing, but having gone through the process now, I can tell you not to worry about it, it doesn't really matter if the B # works or not as long as your client ID does, you're fine

As for the link up, at that time of this year I'll be as big as a tank lol I'm not sure how things will go with the pregnancy so I'd have to wait and see at that time

highlyflavoured - how are you? we haven't seen you in awhile. I hope things are good with you
