I did not have a lawyer or anyone like that help with my app. I asked friends what they had done and called the line and asked questions (but they were useless just reading the instruction manual back to me). I feel like if you use this forum and read the instruction manual carefully as well as have someone go over all your forms with you to make sure they are complete and make sense (i did his with my mom) you will be fine.

Yeah, we didn't use a lawyer either and I would have to agree with Janaidian mrs.... I don't think it's necessary, but that's all a matter of personal opinion, as some people are definitely more comfortable using legal counsel.

I don't think it matters if you owe money, unless it's for social assistance back-pay or something like that.

I have a student loan too and I have been approved to sponsor so I don't think that affects anything. Also we did not submit through a lawyer but we did speak to a lawyer and we were going to submit through him. Things changed n we ended up doin it on our own but basically we were told all he does is review and make sureall forms are complete and that we provided enough proof of our relationship so we just submitted a ton of pictures, text conversatins,Skype logs, phone call records, payments of his bills and money transfers to him in Jamaica along with our plane tickets and boarding passes from our visits to see him. As long as you send in as much as possible and make sure the forms are down properly and completely I would not worry. (Keep in mind we are still waiting for ppr )

For anyone who has gotten their notes, can someone tell me if you got any notifications/ ecas updates/ or anything on the "due date" on your notes? Our notes say due date of July 30th 3014. And our criminality section of the notes was in progress as of June 9th and security not started. As far as I've been able to understand by piecing info together we are just waiting for criminality and security to be passed n then we will get ppr (is this seem right?) Meds have passed. I dont want to get myself too excited but like everyone else here I'm so tired of waiting. This process is so hard! In the last 15 months my son and I have only seem my husband (and sons father) for 2 weeks. Can anyone give me some info on what seems to happen on the due dates?

The due date is one year form when you would have received Sponsorship approval. This is when they should look at your file again. It's a good thing that you can see that things have been started. All you need to for your criminality and security to be passed and then as long as everything else has been completed then PPR will be coming your way. Thats a good update on your notes!!

Student loans are fine....as long as you haven't been on Welfare or Mothers allowence in the past year you can sponsor your spouse.

Don't waste the money on a lawyer. They don't do anything to speed up this process and they also cost money. We can all help you here with any questions and also the forums aren' that hard. Do it on your own and save the money. This process costs enough as it is

Welcome to the JAMFAM NekaSweeta!! Post any questions and someone will be able to answer you hopefully that knows the answers. As for lawyer, I did my application myself and had a few people review it and I quadruple checked it to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It is up to you if you want to have a lawyer take care of it, but it does not make the process any faster.

As for your student loan effecting your ability to sponsor your spouse I do not think thisis the case, possibly if you are overdue, but even then unlikely. Anyone on JAMFAM know for certain?
