please say an extra prayer for my husband as he heads to kingston tomorrow to drop off his passport, and say a few more extra prayers for all the innocent people of jamaica as they struggle through this terrifying time

missing... i'd confirm if the embassy is open... i'm thinking they will not be open but should be posted on the website... the US embassy has been confirmed as closed tomorrow...

either way i would NOT be making a trip into kingston at this time under ANY costs... it's a war zone and there is many blockages at the major ways in/out... i'd tell him it's more important that he reach canada alive and a few days later when things calm down a bit than not at all... unless he's already in kingston, i'd say stay clear for a few days at least...

i was goona book my flight last and over the radio i hear they lock down kingston airport aND ALL FLIGHTS HAVETO BE REROUTED TO CAYMAN ISLANDS OR MOBAY .i could not even imagine getting stuck in ja right now.CONSIIDREING I HAVE TO PASS ALLL OF THAT

kmc... US embassy is closed tomorrow... not sure about canadian, but i wouldn't doubt it... it's a warzone in some areas and they've blocked some major routes into/out of the city... hopefully it will be short lived, but i would expect the embassies to be extra precautious until situation dies down... if it does continue more than a week or two (unlikely) they may even re-route to another office which could mean some delays for those currently in the system... lets HOPE that doesn't happen!!!!!!

lcw - wow! I had asked some questions on another immigration blog where she was ... jamwifey saved me by inviting me here. I never had any trouble with her but by the sounds of it....it may have happened sooner or later

kmc - I'm booked to go down to Mobay June 19....I'm praying things settle down by then. Although things are ok around Mobay...so hubby tells me.

missing - I'll definitely say a prayer for your hubby's safety going into Kingston today....I hope it's not closed down!

update...

spanish town bypass has seen problems... flat bridge, marcus garvey, constant spring road all seen fighting/road blocks... downtown is a warzone... not sure of the current situation, but if the area has seen problems, i'd not advise it... seems only unaffected way in is thru harbour view...

not sure if embassy is open.... do have him call first if he is insistant on going...

if you filter that site to just OnTheGround posts, you'll get news that has been confirmed and not just some moron with a computer typing nonsense there has been dozens of reports of dudus being in custody over the past 48 hours and not one has been substianted...

my personal belief is that dudus is in a secure location and negotiating the terms of this ordeal in a much more civilized fashion while the blood of his "followers" is flowing freely... who knows...

edit... sorry, that site is a new one that seems to be taking ontheground reports and spicing them up a bit... i suggest checking the source directly, the ontheground has over 12,000 followers (many confirming/disproving their reports and keeping them honest) and has been where i've been getting a good bit of my information... i have friends who are cops in kingston (one was unreachable yesterday but otherwise those i know are well), who have been filling in a few blanks...

Nae-Nae, the US Embassy here in GT is increasing their fees as well for visa applications .. this is just so stupid already seeing the high cost one has to pay to get a visa interview.
