Keeping alive Permanent Residence card

Hello

Me and my spouse hold permanent residence card since 2015. Due to my Job commitment at aboard , I am not been able to stay at full time in Canada.

My question is if my spouse stay at Canada 730 days or more; Does My PR card keeps remain active though I haven't stay 730 days in 5 years ?

Only the PR card expires after 5 years PR does not expire.

Between 2015 and 2020 the maximum you can stay out is upto 3 years, beyond that each time you reenter the country there is always the possibility even though might be remote of being reported by CBSA for failing to meet residency resulting eventually in PR being revoked subject to appeal. In fact once you pass the 3 years out of 5 timeline it is advised that an individual stays in country for 2 years straight to reset residency obligation

Once/if your PR card expires to travel back to the country you would need a PRTD bringing more focus on your PR status and any failure to meet residency .

Plenty of PR applicants get into this position of work commitments but I guess ultimately there is a decision to make on where your future lies and why apply for PR in the first place. The residency obligation 2 out of 5 is pretty generous to cater for these situations.

Your spouse staying in Canada does not protect you with regards to the residency obligation requirements. You gain no benefit.
