Joint bank account with fiancee

Hi I am a UK citizen in canada on visitor status. I am trying to open a joint bank account with my Canadian fiancee in ontario. Canada trust will not accept my birth certificate as a second piece of ID because it is from the UK although they will accept my passport. They have not been able to suggest any other ID other than a visa which, as the uk is visa exempt, I am unable to provide. I don't drive so I don't have a driver's licence.

Can anyone tell me if they have had this problem and if they were able to resolve it.

My husband is German and I am Canadian. We were able to open an account with RBC using his passport and national ID card. Maybe you can look around, and try explaining your situation. We told the advisor that we want to move here and that the first step was to transfer and start saving money into a Canadian account.

We got it all sorted at another branch of TD. I've been added to my partners account.

From next month you will only need 1 piece of ID.
