Hi, I'm trying to find a job in Vancouver B.C.and I've applied to different businesses, but it seems everyone is so concerned about how much paperwork there is, when in reality, it's not that much. I even offer to cover all expenses myself and they still refuse! What is it about the paperwork that has them so scared?

Are you now in BC? The employers need to apply for the LMO. Before they can apply for LMO, they need to advertise, go through the applications received, make a summary of the recruitment effort to show no Canadian citizen or PR is qualified.

Hi Job_seeker,
I'm not in B.C. yet. I went to school there but I'm back in the Caribbean. I want to receive my work permit before I moved there. The last time I was there my job search was fruitless so the money that I had saved went up in smoke in a few months as I tried supporting myself and that caused me to come back here. So I don't want to make the same mistake twice. That's why I'm searching for a job in B.C. first. I've so far managed to schedule an interview when I get there. But I'm still skeptical, because I'm not sure if I'm going to receive that job, so I'm thinking I might end up in the situation I was in before.

Job Offer & Work Permit

Hi KimmiC
I now exactly what you're talking about. My boyfriend and I are in the same situation. it's so hard to find an employer.last week my b.friend could go to an job interview and they told him that they won't hire foreign people.it's so frustrating,we even tried before from switzerland and everthing didn't turn out.time goes by and there's no money coming in.
I don't know if you would end up again getting no job maybe you'll be lucky!!you never know and that makes it not easier.

we won't give up but on the other side we can't stay here forever with no job.I'm doing now volunteer work so at least i can be helpful a little bit.

do you try to get more job interviews when you get to vancouver?i really wish you all the best and I hope you'll make it!!
take care

Hi Carol M

I really do hope you and your boyfriend get a job. I understand how difficult and frustrating it must be. But it's great the you will help other people with your time. Hopefully something will turn up.

Hi Job_Seeker

PGWP. Hmm. Not entirely sure what the letters stand for. I do assume that the last two are for Work Permit. What does PG stand for though?

Ok I found out. no I'm not apply for a Post Grad Work Permit. It wasn't available when I graduated from College in B.C. So it's too late for me to apply for one.

I guess alot of employers are scared of getting involved with the Fed Govt or Immigration cases.
I know a lot of friends that came in as international students and then trying to convert into work permit status. As soon as an employer finds out that they are international students and they have to go throught HRDC......they back out.

Kinda sad.

Yeah. It really can cause great disappointment. Especially when your facing the opposition alone.

Have you tried searching job sites in Canada?

http://www.canadavisa.com/career_zone/canadian-immigration-job-search.htm
http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/
http://www.eluta.ca/
http://www.monster.ca/
http://www.workopolis.com/

(copy/pasted the websites from Leon's post: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/need-help-to-immigrate-t33718.0.html)

Submit applications thru email if you're not in Canada yet. You'll never know when an employer may be needing the skill set you have. Your friends in Canada can help too. And since you intend to come back to Canada, use the time you're here to set up for interviews. Employers are a little more inclined to "spend" time and and effort to somebody who's already in Canada. All the best.
