Hello All,

I need some advice from the learned people here.

I applied for my Citizenship application on Jan 15, 2026 with no buffer. After applying I moved to a foreign country for job.

When I applied for my citizenship application while uploading the proof of English , I uploaded a different document. In March 2026, I was asked by CIC to upload the correct document which I eventually uploaded.

Now my question is that when my application is being considered for citizenship How will they calculate my physical presence because i had no buffer, i left canada after applying for citizenship and they asking for more documentation ?

Any advice is highly appreciated.

TIA

Well, you don't have to stay in Canada for applying cititzenship until you get Oath Ceremony invitation given that you have sufficient physical presence mentioned in citizenship application requirements. You can eventually take the citizenship test abroad. The only time you need to be physically in Canada is the day you take the solem oath to official become Canadian citizen.

For the additional document request, they will take time to review it so it will add more time to the whole processing time. How much it could be is totally up to the complexity of the case itself and the office that handles the case.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your response. I need some clarification regd the way physical presence is calculated. i updated my question with those details

Seym makes a great answer to mention that the physical presence is calculated with 4 years immediate before the date you submit your application. It's locked and whether you're in Canada or not after submitting the application is irrelevant until you need to come back to Canada for Oath Ceremony (whether it's online or in-person event).
