Rules Changed:
Cannot be done. Your ETA is invalid now.

You will need a valid unexpired PR card or a PRTD(Permanent Resident Travel Document) in order to board a plane or via any other commercial transportation.

The eta attached to your passport is no longer valid after you landed in Canada and became a pr. Since now you are already a PR you will need PR card or PRTD. You can apply for a fresh ETA but the system will recognize you as a PR and reject your eta application.

2 choice:
1) Wait for the PR card, once received tell your family members, friend, etc to mail the card to the UK. Once you get the card travel hassle free.
2) Apply for a PRTD. (This sucks, form fill up and crap like that, similar to applying a new visa). You are a new pr you are guaranteed to get a PRTD 100% approval, wait time 10-15 days after applying.

IMAO.
hope it helped.

Or you can apply for if you do not already have one a US ESTA fly to Seattle cross over the land border to Vancouver with just your COPR and passport. Once in Canada you can fly direct back to the UK no need to go back through the US although guess the flight ticket cost might be the decider. People waiting for their PR card either new or having an expired one often use this as an alternative rather than wait out a PRTD. For the latter really depends how long you have to wait it out in the UK , not sure for UK but possibly without your passport.

CORRECT! THE 3RD RECOMMENDED OPTION FOR A UK CITIZEN.
