BC is the most expensive province of Canada. It is very beautiful and has mild winters compared with other provinces, hence its attraction.

We rent a 2 bedroom (just over 1000 sq ft) basement suite about 50km east of Vancouver. This costs $1050 per month, but that includes all bills (electricity, water, internet etc).

For family of 4 you'll probably want a least a 3 bedroom apartment, so I'd say you're probably looking at $1200 per month or so if you live in the suburbs such as Langley, Walnut Grove, Surrey etc. Gets a bit cheaper if you go a bit further away from Vancouver - Aldergrove, Abbotsford, Chilliwack etc. And of course more expensive the closer to Central Vancouver you get.

Probably the biggest "sting" about BC is the car insurance. Because ICBC have the monopoly on the minimum insurance that you have to get, they can (and do!) charge what they like. Our car insurance is about $1700 per year (but that's with only 1 year no claims at 5% it goes up to a maximum of 8 years at 40%).

Beautifull BC :)

But you can also explore the opportunities in Alberta. You will not make a mistake by coming here.

I am paying $257 per month for my car . I am in Kingston, Ontario. And the rent you mentioned looks normal to me as I am paying $1000 plus utilities ($200) per month for a 2-bed apartment.

Hi,

Is Surrey a good neighbour hood, and with a family of 7, how many bedrooms do we need legally.

Based on my experience, I would avoid BC if you want a job -- but that's just my experience, others may have found differently. Edmonton is great . . .

I would avoid Surrey. Even Pitt Meadows, Poco and Port Moody is better. Just that one might have to pay toll at one of the nearby bridges driving towards Surrey. I think for a family of 7, you need a single home of 4 or more rooms.

Vancouver BC is undeniably a best place to live in. Acceptable weather, beautiful scenery, awesome social lives, parties, etc.

But it's very expensive.
Quite difficult with regards to job hunting.

I suggest try to be stable in Canada first, start out in a small town or province. Once you get your feet wet, I guess moving and transitioning to Vancouver will be a walk in the park. :)

You know, there are probably 20 different colleges and universities in the Vancouver area -- instead of using a forum for vague and pointless inquiries, why don't you just look at the web site of the one you want to go to, which will tell you exactly how much it costs?
