I came to Canada with multiple entry visitor visa. I got married to my girl friend (permanent resident) of six years.

We applied for in-land spousal sponsorship days before my visitor visa expired. Open work permit application was not included with the P.R. application.

Am I allowed to stay in Canada without any offence until a decision is made on my application? Is this implied status?

There are varying opinions on this. Please help!

My understanding is that it is NOT implied status. But CIC will still process the application and it can be approved and all that. You get implied status when stage one of the PR comes thru. But as far as CBSA is concerned you are illegal and can be deported at their whim.

CIC should make this policy a LOT more clear ontheir website. Basically, people should try to keep a valid visa for as long as possible and always renew if possible. It may be too late for you to get a new visa now, so you just have to lay low and hope CBSA doesnt notice.

[this is just my understanding and i could be completely wrong]

You do not have implied status. However, you applied inland while having status. Therefore if you have an eligible sponsor and are not otherwise inadmissable, it is CIC's policy not to remove you. You shouldn't have to worry but you should not leave Canada until your PR is granted.

That is my understanding also. But you don't have an eligible sponsor UNTIL she has been approved as such, hence the previous post about getting implied status once Stage 1 comes through. At that point, you have an eligible sponsor.
