I heard that the immigration officers actually call your employer. Is that true? Has this happen for anyone?

That's why they ask you for your employer's contact information like name, address, phone number

They wanna make sure that everything falls in place

Do they call your employer? Yes they do, in case they needed clarification or a piece of mind
Do they do it all the time? NO they don't

So in the best of your interest, assume that they'll do :)
