I was in Canada for four months on a visitor visa. I traveled and left by airplane. I have seen some posts saying IRCC is not able to confirm those days and they are thus not counted. Is this common? My physical presence is comfortably over the requirement if I count those days. I didn't extend my stay or use a visitor record or anything, and my visa was still valid when I left. I didn't have implied status. I have a new passport now compared to the one I used during visa travel.

It's mandatory to give a precise assessment of your presence days. You don't have a choice. You were in Canada under visitor status during a period that falls within the last 5 years? It has to be listed.
What's risky it to rely on these to reach 1095 days of physical presence.
List them, but to maximise your chances for a smooth application, only apply once you don't need them to be eligible, and consider that they're not part of the buffer beyond 1095 days in case you make a mistake in your physical presence.
These 2 additional months of waiting (to compensate for 4 months at 50% credit) will probably get you to the finish line, the oath ceremony, sooner.

As mentioned above, its not a choice! You MUST actually list it in order to provide honest and accurate info to ircc.

Refer to the physical presence calculator here. The second page clearly asks you whether you've been in Canada as a temp resident (visitors included) during your eligbility period.

No such thing as "risky". Follow the rules of physical presence calculation as stated. We applied with exactly 1095 days, of which more than 6 months was on visitor status, and there was no issue, physical presence completed.
