Is it possible to obtain a point for a Canada working experience which is 8 years old?

Hello there,

I am asking on behalf of my friend. She has a working experience within Canada in 2 companies in the last 10 years.

1. A company - Noc B, 1 year working experience between 2016-2017
2. B company - Noc B, 2 year working experience between 2011-2013

As of my understanding, only working experience in the last 3 years will be recognized in EE profile. My friend said the working experience she had in B company (which is 8 years old) will also be recognized.

Not sure which is right? Please advise.

Any work experience in last 10 years is recognized for FSW and CRS points.

Thanks. So that means her working experience with B company will be considered under FSW, but not under CEC, correct?

If I'm not mistaken, CEC also considers work ex in last 10 years. But not absolutely sure about that as am Outland. So, it's better to ask a CEC applicant.

I see. Because I've seen the working experience requirement under CEC as the following... Hope someone else can also enlighten on my confusion.
Thanks for your insight tho. I appreciate it! :)

  • have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada, in the last 3 years before you apply. The work was:
    • full-time or
    • an equal amount in part-time
  • have gained your work experience by working in Canada legally

you will not be considered as CEC (those tend to have priority and a slightly faster application process), but your experience will be considered as Canadian, with all the additional points and easier transferability points.

Your friend has to meet two sets of eligibility requirements.

1. CEC - minimum entry requirement - minimum of one full year of skilled employment in Canada within the past 3 years.

2. Express Entry CRS score - points for employment - past 10 years.

So, yes, she should list all her Canadian experience, as long as it was skilled.

Thanks for your advise, Jes_On.

I would like to correct her situation here, Sorry.

Her working experience with A company is oversea working experience actually in her home country. Hence, her only Canada working experience is back in 8 years ago with B company. What are her options now?

Nothing changed there. She can list both work experiences as they are valid. However she will get additional points for Canadian work experience just for the second one.
