Is it a good idea to submit SOP if not requested?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering that if it's a good idea to submit a cover letter or a SOP along the visa application kit, if it's not requested by my regional visa officer. I was just thinking to submit the letter as it explains my situation well but since it hasn't been asked for I don't want to sound apologetic or defensive towards the visa officer. However, it says on the check list "Please feel free to provide any additional documents, that you think will justify your case"

its totally optional and upto u, but it is good to provide if you have gaps in studies, or u want to convey some thing to VO which will help VO to understand ur situation .
 
I don't have much gap since my previous employment. The gap is of 6 months, that's because I choose not to work since I got my acceptance as I would have to sign a minimum 1-2 year job contract. Confused!

It is optional and depends on you............

It's totally optional but no harm if u submit SOP with your file as it'll make your case strong.

It is not optional. Go to cic.ca, now they requires a personal statement of 500 words. It is because their no interview by CHC.
