Same rules for children as adults. If they move away, they lose their PR too.

Hi,

Is it ok if children stay there with wife and the principal aplicant can stay out of Canada? Can they still keep PR status for three years and then they appy for citizenship without the pricipal aplicant?

Does anyone know about this and share, please?
Thanks

Once you are PR, nobody cares who was the principal applicant anymore. Everybody's PR is equal.

If the husband is away but the wife and children live in Canada, she can apply for citizenship when she qualifies after living there for 3 years and then will apply for the children at the same time. Children do not have to live in Canada for 3 years to become citizens but they can not apply on their own. Parent has to apply for them and parent has to either be a citizen or a PR who is also applying for citizenship at the same time, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp#age

The husband can apply for citizenship later when he qualifies.

Hi Leon,

Many Thanks.

It's clear to me. Where did you apply for Canada immigration before, Leon? In Singapore as well?

I think you must be confusing me with someone else. I have never been to Singapore.

What time period is required for children to get the citizenship?

They have to be PR but no certain time limit, it is the parent who has to qualify. This is from the CIC website:

To apply for citizenship for a child under 18, make sure the following conditions are met:

* the person applying is the child’s parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian
* the child is a permanent resident, but does not need to have lived in Canada for three years and
* one parent is already a Canadian citizen or is applying to become a citizen at the same time. This also applies to adoptive parents.

The best example would be if a PR has a baby outside Canada and sponsors the baby for PR. The parent can apply for citizenship after living in Canada as a PR for 3 out of the last 4 years. The baby may only be a few months old at the time but still goes on the parents application. Same if a PR had not sponsored a child on the initial application but does it later. The child may just have gotten their PR but if the parent qualifies to apply for citizenship, the child goes in on the same application.
