Hello All,

I have applied for my coop permit but still not received after 4 and half months can anybody help me in giving me any suggestions. Please.
I'm out of school for more than 5 years now. Things might have changed. We never applied online for co-op permit. Since Windsor is a border city, we used to go to the Canadian Consulate in Detroit and get done within weeks.

Has your school helped you to apply? if they did, seek their assistance. In any way, it shouldn't take this long.

college has not helped for it and It has taken more than 4 months now.
If your work term was supposed to have started already, you should send a letter to CIC and explain your situation. Don't forget to include your UCI and application number in the letter. I did this after my MP suggested it and my application was approved a few days after I sent the letter. The address is

Thank you.

Should i attached the document with it or no?

Please advise.
I didn't attach any documents. Just a simple letter explaining my situation and politely asking them to process my application as soon as possible.

I applied for Co-op work permit 100 days before my program starts by paper. I am now so worried whether I will get it by that time or not. I have the following questions:
1- When one applies by paper is it required to open an account online?
2- If it is not how I can understand the status of my application?
3- In case I don't have it 2 weeks before my program starts, is it possible to go to a Canadian board (do they accept it when I have a paper application in process)?
Thank you so much for your help

I've been an engineering co-op student in Ontario, had 4 terms with different companies and finally secured full-time permanent job with one of them during my final year of study. From my story, you can learn the importance of CO-OP if you want to settle in Canada in future. Co-op program is mostly common among undergrad students in either college or university, but very limited for post-graduates.

Well done.

Great post by Rossei.

Can one enrol into a co-op AFTER becoming a PR ie., after landing in Canada?
It has nothing to do with PR status. First, you have to be in a college or university studying certain programs which offer co-op. As opposed to Int'l students, a PR or Citizen student doesn't need to apply for co-op work permit. But any student can get into the program provided their study program offers it and they maintain a minimum CGPA.

So we pay the fees as equivalent to domestic students, not international students. Correct?

Well, tuition fees is obviously different but co-op fees is same for all students.

Hi All
I am a student in montreal and got an internship in a company in ottawa starting from Jan. for my coop visa, can I go directly to the border or should I only apply online or on paper?
I heard someone did that and I was thinking maybe going to the border is faster.

Hi juthvp, I'm currently looking into the exact same course both in Lambton college as well as the one in Conestoga college. If you have further information of your progress in this matter, please do let me know.
