Can an international student in Canada go homecto his or her home country during breaks then come back to Canada? What documents are needed to ensure his or her return and entry? Thanks.

I appreciate your response. Thank you. I do have follow up queries though. My student permit, my wife’s open work permit as well as our sons’ student permits all have a stipulation at the bottom which says ‘THIS DOES NOT AUTHORIZE RE-ENTRY’. It is quite worrisome. Our visas are all valid until the end of 2021 and we all have ‘MULTIPLE ENTRY’ affixed in our visas. Must this stipulation in our permits be a cause for alarm and would there be other bases for the border officer to disallow re-entry?

You cant enter Canada with study permit alone. This is what the message in the study permit means. Study permit had nothing to do with your travel except prove that you have valid status in Canada.

You must have a TRV to return to Canada and a study permit to prove you status.

Thanks again for the quick response. That said, I do understand it perfectly that the aforementioned stipulation simply points out to the document is not meant for travel purposes and that it must be in tandem with a valid multiple-entry student or work visa. Final query though, how come it’s so difficult to gain connect with an IRCC agent through their 1-800 number? Is there a specific time one could contact them? Thanks.

There are probably more callers than the system can handle. You will just have to try.

Seems like people on this thread have a good amount of knowledge to answer my query .

Due to unavoidable circumstances,I had to come back to India from Canada right after landing in Canada in December. My study visa is valid till September 2020 and I am now wanting to start studying in a new college from September 2019 .So,I wanted to know how to proceed.Do I need to apply for a new study visa or I can land in Canada with the same visa and get it extended while in Canada?

I sent this query to the High Commission of Canada in delhi and this is what they replied:

If your Study Permit is still valid but your re-entry temporary resident visa (TRV) for Canada has expired, you may apply for a single- or multiple-entry TRV. A multiple-entry TRV will normally be issued with the same validity as your Study Permit, or your passport, whichever expires earlier. Please be sure to enclose a copy of your valid Study Permit with your TRV application.

I'll be very thankful to someone who can assist me with this.
