Hello! Long time lurker. The time came for me to ask my own questions..

My mother already has a valid visit visa from a few years ago. I intend to apply for the remainder of my family so that they can make a family trip for the purpose of tourism (as they want to visit the country before my graduation). The visit is planned for 2 weeks in the end of December where they can apply for leave / school is out.
  • Using the new IRCC portal, no issues going back to the GCKey portal if recommended.
  • I am an international student. I understand that I have no weight on their application other than an invitation letter and my study permit and visa to prove my status.
  • My elder brother and father are both employed. My minor brother is in high school.
  • They're able to mark CAD 10,000 per person without significant impact on savings, however my father is the one with all the savings.
  • My elder brother does not have more than CAD 10,000 in his account. He lives with the rest of my family so my brother handles the day to day expenses and my father is the one with the money saved up.
  • Completing the new portal for my elder brother, having selected the option that he depends on someone else for money, I don't see an option to upload funds proof. (did I mention this new portal is a bit confusing?)
Are there things I need to look out for with these applications? I am particularly concerned about the matter of funding. My father is willing to write an undertaking that he is providing for the trip financially as he maintains the savings. My tuition is on a guarantee and I'm nearly done with my tuition payments, and we've already budgeted for my living costs in the past, so there's no financial burden of making this trip that would impact my ability to pay my dues in Canada. The 5-year travel history for my brothers and my father are extensive, and they all have valid US NIV, with my father having visited US over 5 years ago, so I have no concerns there.

I love your inputs and I look forward to hearing from some of the veterans on these forums. Thank you for everything you do! I hope to hear from you soon.

If your older brother is over 22 then he applies separate from your family with his own funds, ties to return and travel history. He is not part of your family's application as he is not a dependant.

Thank you for your reply! He is over 22 and his application is separate from the application that my father and younger brother will make. His strongest tie to return is his employment who will be providing a no objection certificate and a salary certificate. He will also present his own 4 month bank statements. His own funds are about CAD 10,000 on the dot so my fear is he doesn't himself have the savings cushion that my father has (where the amount available to visit Canada should not be ALL of his savings) as he has been covering general expenses for my family.

Would there be any objections (I am happy with assumptions or hypotheticals, just curious) if he was to ALSO submit documents of my father's finances to prove that he does not lack the means to travel to Canada, as they are making the trip together anyway? In a way, he is "depending" on my father to be able to travel to Canada without significant financial burden. Thanks!

Ok. Because he would have his own login/account not with parents. Being single always makes it difficult to be approved. He has no family ties but parents/siblings all going to Canada or in Canada makes it difficult to show reasons to return. However he has US visa which works in his favour. Your father's bank statements can be included but IRCC doesn't have to consider them. A dependant is under 22.

Agreed, and done!
A dependant is under 22.
Agreed, and fair enough. I know the definition is strict which is why I used it in quotes, as it is a complex situation where my brother never had to save as the family shared expenses.

Worth a shot, but good to know!

Thank you so much for your time and input!

Don't add an invitation letter. It'll have negative affect.
