Hi all,.

My spouse was granted PR from India. He will be arriving late July. He recently got his Indian licence converted to international driving licence. I wanted to know what the procedure is for him to change the international licence to Ontario based.
The website says you need to prove that you had more than 2 years for driving experience. How can this be done? they want a letter of experience...where/who gives that?

Thank you!

you have to check to see if India is a country Canada reciprocates licenses for? The service ontario site should have this information. if it is one of the countries, does he still have the physical indian driver's license? if so, the physical license can be used to prove the length of experience based on the date written on the license (assuming the date is over 2 years). if he doesn't have it anymore (or the date is less than 2 years), he needs to get a letter of experience from the motor vehicle department in his home city. i am not sure how it works if Ontario doesn't reciprocate an indian license...though i suspect the website has this information as well.

India is not one the countries that can do a straight licence swap so need an official letter from the authority in India that issued the licence to confirm authentic. This together with the licence and the IDP the latter just being a translation. https://www.ontario.ca/page/exchange-out-province-drivers-licence

He Can drive for 60 days from the date of landing. Can rent any car as well.
Within this 60 days, he has to write G1 and eventually G2 or G.

G2 or G eligibility will be done based on Indian Driving license issued date.

If the issued date is more than 4 years, then he can directly take G2 exit test and get G License.

Either way G1 is mandatory. The advantage is he doesn't need to wait 1 year to take G2 Test.

Why some of the applications goes to Ottawa? Even if there's a visa office in their respective countries.

please refrain from posting questions that don't have relavance in a thread. there are many other threads you can post this question in.

to answer your question: CIC sends "non-complicated" and "straightforward" applications to Ottawa to help reduce the backlog at some offices. there is no way in knowing how they make this determination, and it can not be requested. you find out when they tell you.

Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't notice I was in this thread. I thought I was in May 2016 Outland App thread. Didn't realized that until I saw this reply. Anyways, thanks for answering my question.
