Hello Everyone,

We did our landing on 03 April 2018 and are planning on moving permanently next year (July 2020). However, we are planning a trip to Canada in July 2019. Does anyone have any idea about the questions that could be asked at the immigration in Toronto? Also, what is an appropriate response if asked how long do you plan to be in Canada on the current trip? We are not breaching the RO and will also have ample time to complete RO when we move permanently in July 2020 but still unsure of the treatment at immigration.

Also, a related question is whether it makes sense to completely avoid the trip in July 2019 and only travel back to Canada when moving permanently in 2020? Do PR card holders occasionally travelling in and out of Canada while spending long duration outside Canada face any issues on their interim trips?

For a background, we do not fall into any exceptions so the time being spent outside Canada at the moment would not be considered towards residency obligations. Also, we have valid PR cards valid until 2023 so no issues on that front either. We haven't moved yet due to my current job obligations in my country of residence that require completing a project which can't be transferred.

Would very much appreciate input from people who may been through similar circumstances. Thanks so much for your help.

Hi

You can come and go from Canada as you wish. CBSA likely won't ask you anything, as you meet the RO and have the right of entry.

You will have no problems.

You could only produce problems yourself by trying to think about what the appropriate thing to say is. Don't try to withhold information or to omit any information. Your situation is totally fine so don't make the mistake of trying to "tweak" your story at the border.
