Hello,

I have attempted to find this information on the various links and website for the CIC, but have been unable to do so. If someone could please help me answer this question that would be fantastic.

I am a US Citizen with Canadian Permanent Resident status. I am currently living in Seattle, WA, USA.

My Canadian born spouse is also currently living with me in Seattle, WA.

My card itself has expired however when I crossed the border last week coming into Canada (with my expired card) the border officer informed me I am eligible to renew my Canadian PR Card since my Canadian Spouse resides with me - and that I ought to do this as soon as possible.

I was starting to fill out the application to renew my PR Card but some information it asks me to provide I cannot - such as Canadian Tax returns etc. I cannot provide this since I did not fill this out since I was not residing in Canada for the last several years.

Is there another application I must fill out in order to renew my Canadian PR Card whilst residing outside of Canada with my Canadian spouse?

I do have an address that I can use in Canada (such as my Grandparents who are Canadian and I also still have my Canadian BC Drivers License) and crossing the border as a US Citizen is never an issue. So coming to Canada is not an issue in order to apply or pickup a new PR Card.

Thank you

Hi there,

The only form you can use for renewal of your PR Card the form you mentioned. No other forms available.

You can renew your PR Card by submitting your application in Canada (for Canadian address only). If you want to enter to Canada as PR of Canada you have to apply for Permanent Resident Travel Document http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=605&top=10

In your case, you could write the letter to CIC and explain your situation (that you live outside of Canada with Canadian spouse and have no tax documents, etc.). However, that might lead to the question about your eligibility to be a Canadian PR http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/about-pr.asp

The full information about that you can find below
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf23-eng.pdf

Thank you very much, I think I am going to apply for the PRTD.

Once I move back to Canada permanently I will then apply for the PR Card.

DO you know if the PRTD also have a expiry date like the PR Card does (every 5 years)?

Thank you very much!!

Hi there,
The PRTD good only for one time enter. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp
I can be wrong, but as I remember it is.
You better travel to Canada as US citizen (use your passport) and apply from Canada; provide IRCC with your real address in Canada to get your PR Card. It takes up to 6 months to get your new PR Crad.
