Hello there,
I have a question and wondering if anyone can assist. I applied for PR June 23rd, 2014 with my husband as my sponsor, my application was received August 10th,2014. i can see from the processing times that they are still working on applications from august 17th last year. my problem is that i might have to leave the country for 2 weeks in May 2015, my Study permit expires end of August 2015. should i apply for an extension before leaving or can i even apply for visa extension???
Any advice???
Thank you

I read somewhere people with Inland sponsorship will not be turned away at border if s/he has a valid Study or Work Permit and visa.

i also have applied for PR, and i have a valid study permit, and i left canada for 3 weeks in April-May 2014. I had no problem at the border. just make sure you have your study permit and visa(if you need a visa) ready.

Hello Anoushkev,

I am sure others here know more than I do, but from what I gather if you sent in an application for the Open Work Permit (OWP) along with your package, you are under what is considered 'implied status'. This allows you to stay in the country without an extension of a visa... however it does not allow you to extend work or study permits. So you would be able to stay in the country, but not continue studying past May 2015.

As for leaving the country, because it's before your Study Permit runs out, it might be okay... but I would personally advise against it. Technically, there is no guarantee you'd be let back in to Canada on your return. I think it even says on the permit "does not guarantee re-entry".

(If that's wrong, omniscient and wise forum folks, please correct me!)
Please Note : If you leave Canada, even for a day, "implied status" ceases to apply as soon as you cross the border. Some people are not aware of this.

Only after expiration of the document. If the original document is not expired, there is no "implied status" to lose at that point.

i have a question, right now im under the "implied status", i didnt extend my visit visa.
so once i pass the 1st stage and get my owp, can i leave canada for a month, then come back and do i need any police certificate again?

My message was directed at civic., not you. Just wondered if civic will accuse you of being "Mr. Police" for telling other how or where to post or come to your defense.

So how muchdid it cost and did you get it on the same day?

In USA you can order driving history/abstract online or by mail. The cost and the length of time to get it depends on a state. For exaple Pennsylvania was $8 and took 1 week to get it.( it was mailed to usa address). It's better to get it while you are in usa. Even though they DriveTest says the driving history document should not be older than 6 months, they didn't even look at it yesterday.

Honestly, I know you're dying to visit but I really wouldn't risk it. Work permits do not guarantee re-entry. Before my husband even started his PR process, we had a rather frustrating turn of events at the end of a trip to Australia. Qantas did not want to let my husband on the plane, as they claimed he might not be let back into Canada (because his work visa said 'does not guarantee re-entry'). We eventually won the battle, after a call to the Canadian Embassy and their assurance that Qantas wouldn't be financially dinged if he was refused... but it certainly changed our idea of 'easily' travelling with only a work permit.

I am 99.9% sure If you have a Work Permit you will be okay. Its not as like you are turning up at the boarder with no documentation at all....

If you bring your work permit with all of other other supporting documents such as your AOR Letter/Application Number/UCI Number the agent can check your status then and there which will prove you are applying and you are currently waiting..

I dont see why or how they would turn you away if you have all of the documents with you, doesn't make sense.

Maybe if you turned up with nothing then yes, I can understand them not letting you in.

Good day! I just want to ask why most of people here they submit their application in Vegreville but in CIC website it says that mail it in CPC-Mississauga? I'm kinda confused.

As of February of this year, all applications (Inland and Outland) go to Mississauga. Many people here applied prior to February.

Good luck!
