I have been out of status for a while now, I am planning to get married to my Canadian girlfriend, I am getting everything ready. My question is should I get a lawyer or file myself? Please advice.

Hi LostInToronto! You are meaning a lawyer for the permanent residence application I'm assuming! In that case it really depends, if you guys have red flags such as huge age difference then maybe yes I would consider it, but with the help from people on this board would do almost as good. I honestly think that they charge too much, and if you really go through everything carefully, then you should be fine. As long as you guys submit a good quality of evidence that your relationship is genuine, you should be all good. We did it ourselves, and so far so good

I'll join. *technically* I'm in 2013 (literally the very last), but since I don't have AOR yet, better for me to track here. Plus if mine moves, everyone else can be sure CIC is into 2014 .

I should note the app is for my wife, and not for me (I'm a Canadian citizen by birth). But I made myself her representative and helped with the forms, because for her they are extremely complicated (and even for me, where English is my native language, they are rather confusing...)

You should get AOR real soon! At least you got medicals and paid everything up front, it should be a smooth ride for you two - hopefully!!

The only unusual thing I did was submit my app with only marriage license copies, and a note on it stating that the certificate will be on the way soon (waiting for it in the mail). If I get AOR, then it means they are okay with that! I've seen that some other people did it, and it turned out fine. Wanted to beat the police certificate expiry..

Yeah I don't think that matters. At least you made a note explaining that the rest will be sent out as soon as possible. So when they come, make sure to send them right away to avoid the whole package being sent back to you for resubmission!

Hi everyone ...i am one of them ,those already get tired because of long waiting game and i can't wait any more now,after 5 months i am rushing to drop my inland application now.i am still waiting for my lawyer ( liar ha ha ha ) call for last confirmation..i wanna put up my out land application before fly back to singapore. Best of luck to all specially those just apply for inland application under spousal sponsorship.

I'm new and I'm also waiting for the acknowledgment of receipt from Vegreville,so I would like to share my dates:
- Sponsorship application has been received by Vegreville on November 30,2013
- Application for open work permit was sent December 12, 2013.
My wife is pregnant and we are expecting a baby in June 7, 2014.

My question is : How long it will take for the acknowledgment of receipt from Vegreville?

Hi Sincey! Welcome on here, and good luck with your application

Usually AOR takes 2-4 weeks. There has been a few cases where some applicants don't receive them, it's mystery why, but if you don't receive it after a month I'd give them a call. You can also follow up on ecas if you have an UCI.

I think we all go through tough times waiting, at one point or another. Keep your spirits high and try not to worry too much. You should hopefully get it before June or so!

You receive an UCI along with the AOR email. With that you log into ecas! Ecas is showing your status and when they received this and that, but they aren't too reliable when it comes to updating it. Yes, definitely give them a call to ask how far are with the AOR for you guys!
