How long does the PGWP take to get once you apply online? The website only indicates the following: Does the PGWP take the same amount of time as a OCWP?

Type Days Working on
Off-Campus Work Permit (OCWP) 13 days October 4, 2013
Work Permit(new employer) -paper 54 days August 24, 2013
Work Permit(new employer) -online 30 days September 17, 2013
Work Permit (same employer)-paper 65 days August 13, 2013
Work Permit (same employer)-online 30 days September 17, 2013

Normally it takes as long as a "work permit new employer".

Thank you so much. I actually have found a conversation about this topic, and the conclusion stated that it is fine to work after. I wanted to give a link to that thread, but I am not allowed to post links yet.

I have called in to the CIC and on two separate occasions, a CIC agent said "PGWP is a type of open work permit... so you DO get implied status and you can continue to work under the same conditions as yoru current PGWP."

I then said "i read that the pgwp 'CANNOT BE EXTENDED'...so are you sure?

and the agent said "having implied status does not constitute as 'extending a permit', so your girlfriend can work. PGWP are a type of open work permits..and open work permits qualify for implied status"

I have discussed this with Screech on here before.... I would recommend getting something in writing saying that PGWP does indeed qualify for implied status... because its not worth the risk.

In my girlfriends case, we applied for PR in early september 2013 and at the same time she sent in her OWP with a note saying "process once AIP" or something like that... so at 11 months... we should get AIP in August 2014..her PGWP expires in November 2014..so we have a 2-3 month buffer...

CIC is moving fast now... I just read that Dec 7 applicants received AIP and DM thus the next on line is the dec 11 Applicants. 2013 applicants will soooon be receiving AIP and hopefully our DMs as well. ;)

Trana;

Thank you for your reply. But I called the CIC and the FBI in the states and they all said that we can have my husbands fingerprints taken in Calgary and send them out to the FBI with complete application package. We were sent to the Commissionairs office in Calgary and got his fingerprints taken and sent out the mail today. the FBI will receive our mail by Friday because we did get the tracking slip.

I'm hoping it would take the FBI sooner than normal to process his FBI certificate so he can get his PR before I go for my delivery in January...

congrats @dawlex!

i'm wondering if everything is ok with our application...we have had no letters or anything from cic..just what i can see on ecas...it still says "application received march 13, 2013" should i be worried??

You are not the only one, I am actually anxious now. I hope I did not forget anything important in my application. I am told the application can be returned if not complete, can you imagine an application being returned after waiting this long........thats scary. I hope more 2013 applicants start receiving more good news this week.

I wouldn't worry about that! They send it back very quickly if it's not complete, I got mine back and had it sent off again all in less than a month (missing OWP payment as well as a date on a form needed to be updated).

Hi everyone,
I am new in here. This forum really seems interesting and helpful. I was reading everyone's story and was touched. I started my inland sponsorship application for my wife and it was received on Jun 03, 2013. However, I did not get any mails from CIC, just the email for the receipt confirmation. Do I still wait for AOR? and what is AIP? I am so worried as my wife often gets sick and the medical checkups are costly. Doctors keep calling us back for follow up check. My wife cant even go back to states now and is stuck here without OHIP, this feeling haunts me everyday. When I first applied, the processing time was 6 months, and now it is up to 11 months. That sent me off the roof. I am in the same boat as most of you beautiful people in here. Lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
Another quick question: I had sent in her police record along with the application. Was it a mistake?

i think she can get travel insurance if she get sick offen she should get that so wont cost that much. when actually u and ur wife start apply sponsorship ??

Thank you for the reply.I applied on June of this year. It was received on the 3rd of June. I dont know which travel insurance is good and how much is it gonna cost.

It depends on where you get it and for how long, you can ask around for different quotes. I think we paid 700$ for a whole year for myself when I needed it for my working holiday. But then again I never get sick beyond stomach aches and colds.

Thank you. Good that you are healthy. Since my wife gave birth to our daughter, shes been having health issues. I will shop around for an insurance for her. thnx again

Thank you for such a detailed answer. I am not going to risk, and I will definitely ask CIC if I am allowed to work.

Hi there! I'm wondering if I need to apply for a visitor visa extension, but I can't seem to find a clear answer, so I'm hoping someone here will have some advice.

I'm from the U.S., and my last entry was June 2013, so I'd need to submit an extension application soon. However, I sent my OWP application with my PR application, so do I have implied status?

Thank you in advance.
