I think it's ok to "ask for money". This would be the time that he will support you. :) Many of the applicants are not working while waiting for OWP. You can spend time and make your house clean and prepare meals. :) I know it feels different but once the wait is over, you will be able to work again.
Try to read some books? Use the free library service. :)

Good luck.
That's a nice advice but i really hope that thy processing it fast... :) I'm waiting but sometimes I couldn't hep but to get depressed

I've already sent an application for OWP. So I don't need to worry about my status.

However if an applicant has not applied for OWP and if he/she is just a visitor status, he/she doesn't have to extend his/her visitor visa?

I found the following notice. I don't remember whether it was written in the guide, when I applied.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp
Maintaining legal status
Spouses and common‑law partners of Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Canada who wish to apply for permanent resident status are no longer required to have legal immigration status provided that they have an eligible sponsor. All other eligibility requirements continue to apply.
Important information. Applicants who wish to be able to continue to work and study in Canada must submit an application for extension before the work or study permit expires.

Does this mean that applicants don't need to extend their visitor visa any more, even though their visitor visa will be expired during the PR processing?

Thanks for your reply! Would you mind sharing when you had DM?
We got DM in early May! :(
Got a request to provide information for them to extend the medical late last month. And haven't heard back since I sent out that fax.

@tomorisu,

As far as I know, once you are on PR application process, you do not need to extend your work/study/visitor visa at all, provided of course that the visa is valid at the time. We submitted our visa stay extension with our application. We really didn't have to. But I wanted to be sure that my wife was on the level. Have doc that says she has maintained her legal status in Canada.

Thanks, Screech. If I don't have any paper visa during my PR processing, I would worry my status. Even if CIC say it's OK.

I know what you mean. Which is why I rather spend 75 having the comfort in knowing she will have an official extension paper saying her status is legal during the entire process.

Just FYI,

I received this email this morning and thought I was going to get AIP. But this letter makes me relieved seeing some movement on my file.
Just wanted to share with you :)

This is what I received this morning regarding my Open Work Permit Application saying my application hasn't been approved yet, but I'm under implied status.
(I have a post graduate work permit expiring Nov 2013.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This refers to your application for an Open Work Permit. No action is
being taken to process your request for the following reasons:
As a Foreign National in Canada you are not eligible to apply for an open work permit until such
time as you receive confirmation that your application for Permanent Residence will be
processed from within Canada. Your application for an open work permit will be considered at
the same time as your application for permanent residence and if the latter is accepted, the
open work permit will be issued to you. Meanwhile, you are considered to have implied status
and you may continue to work under the same conditions imposed on your most recent work
permit.

Makes sense to me. You won't get approved for OWP until you get AIP status. In the meantime you keep working until your Post graduate work permit expires. If you get OWP before PGWP expires, then nothing changes. You continue working until you get your PR completed.

Thanks Screech.... everything was quick... there were other couples and individuals in the room. Ottawa CIC office does not deliver SIN cards so I will wait until getting PR card to change my SIN number.

Great job updating the spreadsheet

I wish luck to everyone else still waiting!!
