Even though the inland are not affected by the strike, they could be slowing down the process as a form of support of the strike of employees outside Canada. Plus those requiring verification of police check could also be affected on account that they may require canadian embassy's input thus also affecting inland application.
Notice that workers in Ottawa walked out.

Another possibility is that in order to meet minimum service requirements, they may shift workload around internally. But only time will tell.

@screech he said based on current operational procedures he thinks that people who submitted late in the year won't hear anything in the near future. I was in awe ??? He also said its customary for more people to get married in June and submit applications a few months after so that could result in delays. Always blaming external factors

While the agent may blame outside factors, he does have a point in the timing of applications due to summer marriages and applications being submitted in the follwoing months in sept/oct timeframe may seen the biggest numbers of applications coming in. But I don't think the volume of applications can skew the 9 weeks delay in getting AIP.

Ask around and find out when couples got married? Chances are that most of them got married during the summer months. With a couple of months of application preparation bring it to sept/oct timeframe. I had a feeling that applications submitted in the fall would likely to experience delays due to higher volume of applications during that timeframe. While I expect some sort of delay for october but not the 2 months delay. I think other factors are in play such as backlog, strike, new rules implimentation.

@screech

Those agents are lying on June month weddings. If they could use those lies to help deal effectively with their backlogs then I wouldn't have such a disgusting attitude toward that department. The CBSA show on TV said it takes just a few minutes to do a background check on an individual. However, CIC advertised on their site that it takes an average 8 months. Poor us as immigrants

@jiggy,

While it may take a few minutes to do a background check despite it would take 8 months for 2nd stage according to website, sounds like applications are put back in queue in "background check" mode until it gets picked up 6-8 months later and looked at it for a few minutes, " according to CBSA show on TV" and DM gets issued. Although this logic doesn't explain why some people are getting DM sooner than others.

I suspect that when the quarterly update kick in, it may likely say 16 months or more for completion for inland application, an increase from 14 months timeframe, when november applications roll around. The increase, IMHO, will be due to a number of factors. New temporary PR rules, crackdown on marriage fraud, crackdown on immigration fraud, crackdown on refugee claims, strike, all requiring more resources and manhours with budget cuts.

Hi everyone, 'Processing times' is updated. Still, they are showing '6 months' and 'October 8'.

As my husband was told, 'processing times' is not reliable, though....

Does anyone get good news?

As Tomorisu mentioned eariler, the website is updated with October 8th. I'm not surprised by this and would suspect that it will stay on october 8 for a little while longer. I also noticed that the processing time for initial new PR card has increased to 66 days. Up from 63 days from last week, up from 53 days, 3 weeks ago.

Congrats sweetsher in getting your OWP. Let me know when you get it in the mail so I can update timesheet. Where are you living now?
