Hi everyone,

I'm sponsoring my wife from Sri Lanka.

It says in several places that I should not send video discs or video cassettes. I was wondering if I can send our short wedding video in the form of a URL? Do you think it's good proof or they just don't want videos at all?

Thank you all for your help.

Unfortunately there's no point. They will only look at printed evidence.

Take some screen shots of the video, print them out, and send them.

I have seen on reviewing GCMS notes for few people, that CIC does check public facebook / twitter / linked profile /YouTube etc even if you don't provide printed evidence. Recently I have seen a case under family sponsorship where they have checked the fb page for applicants, and in the notes they have specifically mentioned that. Applicant never provided documentation for the same. It is up to them to check the URL links, even if you provide as part of documentation.

And for OP, as other have said, you can send relevant screenshots of video etc.

Hmm, that's interesting. Well, I think my advice from now on would be to not include physical recordings such as DVDs or memory sticks, as CIC will definitely not look at them. But providing a link to something on YouTube, or Facebook, will not hurt the application and the visa officer might look at it. The only warning is: do not expect them to look at a link, so it should not be an important part of your evidence. Print out screenshots of anything you have, but you can then say 'these are screenshots of our wedding video, which can be found on YouTube at ----;' etc. If they look, great; if they do not, well, you have the screenshots as evidence as well, so no harm done.

I provided links to my facebook page that has tonnes of pictures including 300 wedding pictures and videos, other videos and candid comments from friends and relatives and username/password to my phone bill prepaid card account and online gift sending account. Wasn't expecting them to actually check it out but more as a way to show I have nothing to hide. But if they do check them out even better for me.

They only check paper documents.
They usually scan it and trash it.
No point in providing soft copies of anything unless they want to run a background check
