In the middle of the PR process, can I get a new passport?

Hi Guys,

Im in the middle of the PR process. I want to get a new NZ passport with the chip in it so I can get through customs easier when I'm traveling. Can I get a new passport now or will that stuff up the process as it will have a different passport number than the application?
