Hello everyone,

I need help! I am applying for a travel document as a permanent resident, recently approved and I have few questions regarding the application:

1. Do I need a guarantor as a PR applying for TD? If yes, same guarantor qualifications apply as for protected person TD or is it different?

2. Is the application sent to the same address as I sent the first one to when I applied before ( I should also mention that my first TD is expired now)

3. I read somewhere in the forum that you need to send a PR card when applying for a TD, do I send the original or copy?

4. Also do I send the expired TD or a copy of it when applying?

I need your support on this for those who are aware of the process, please let me know, I need to travel in May.

Thank you all!

1. Yes, as far as I know, same as before PR, and even you'll need a guarantor for the first time you get a Canadian passport after you become a citizen.
2. Yes, as far as I know, same address. (I think you should mention that your 1st RTD expired), but check if this is necessary..
3. I don't know, maybe you need to do more reading here and in reddit etc..

Are you a refugee or protected person who became a permanent resident who is applying for a travel document? I can answer your questions if you are.

If you are not a refugee or protected person who became a PR applying for an RTD then you are in the wrong part of the forum, you should go here and figure out your pathway https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/#immigration-to-canada.9

Please make sure you read the instructions in pages 4-8 of the application before you apply (https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/passport/forms/pdf/pptc190.pdf)

1. Yes you need a guarantor, for more details look here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...ravel-documents-references-guarantors.html#td. Also page 6 section H of the RTD application linked below details everything your guarantor needs to sign and what their qualifications are

2. This is the application you need to fill out https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/passport/forms/pdf/pptc190.pdf and the address you need to send it to depending on what you choose is on Page 5 Section D. I dont know when you applied before and if the address is changed. The addresses now are both in Nova Scotia

3. DO NOT send your PR card. Again in the application form linked above pages 4-8 are detailed instructions for the whole application. Page 4 section B is the exact list of what you need to send which can include a photocopy of your PR card

4. No you only send non-expired RTD if you have it, otherwise dont send it if it is expired.
