I'm an Aussie on a 2 year IEC WHP open work permit which expires Aug 13th.

I applied for another IEC WHP permit (stage 1). Does that mean I'll be on implied status after Aug 13th? Or do I get implied status after I complete stage 2 on the myCIC?

Or do I not get implied status at all since it is actually applying for a new one and not extending it ? (since we can't extend IEC WHP)

Also I'm a Nov 2012 PR CEC applicant. I'm thinking getting a BOWP would be faster and ensure implied status but I'm afraid if my PR gets rejected then I'll automatically lose BOWP status and have to leave immediately. Which would not be good considering I have a toddler here.
Anyone have any experience with that?
Would it be detrimental to have a PR app, BOWP app and IEC WHP app all in at the same time?

Non-extendable permits aren't eligible for Implied Status. However, you are allowed to stay as a visitor since you submitted the IEC visa.

This is a point of hot contention with many people firmly believing working on an IEC visa is allowed. For that, I have to show this:

Thank you amikety, that got the gears turning in my brain. I posted a reply on there.

So when you say I'm allowed to stay as a visitor since I submitted the IEC app, does that mean when my current IEC expires, as long as I'm not working, I'm fine? Or do I need to actually apply to become a visitor ?

You're fine to stay as a visitor until a decision is made on your IEC. (Most people have to apply for a new visitor's visa too and that gives them Implied Status.) If you would feel more comfortable, you can also reset your status at the USA border by flagpoling.

Wait... So you're telling me that on the morning of August 13th 2013, I can just wake up in canada, sit around and relax (not working) as long as my IEC permit is still in process? No need to submit all that paperwork to get another visitor visa? Because that would be freaking awesome.

Back in 2011 I applied for a visitor visa via mail to get implied status while I waited for my IEC. Would be so much easier if I immediately just switched to visitor.

Or is that what happens after work visa expire? You automatically become a visitor then you have 6 months

No that is not correct. You would have no status after your present IEC expires. Applying for a new IEC overseas gives you no status in Canada. You either have to apply for an extension as a visitor or leave.
