Hi guys,

I am trying to sponsor my mom but not my dad to immigrate to Canada. My family status is my wife and I are both immigrates already. And when we try to fill IMM0008. I put 1 in Question 3) "How many family members, including you, in this application?" However, it looks like it is conflict with the dependent section as I put my dad's info there. For me, I should add his info there cause in the form and instruction it says "Remember that all questions in this section are about your dependant. You must include your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, and all of your dependent children, and those of your spouse or common-law partner, who are not already permanent residents or Canadian citizens." My dad is not a immigrate and he won't come with my mom. But according to the above desc for dependent section, I should fill him in. Should I? Please help. Thanks.

If your mom and dad are still married, he has to be included. He does not have to immigrate, but he will have to have a medical exam. This is because once your mom is a PR, she can sponsor her husband, and he would then be medically exempt. So if he is not admissible now, CIC would reject her visa as well.

Thanks for your replying, Canadianwoman. However, if I put my dad's information there, the form cannot pass the validation then, cause I put 1 to how many people in this application. Do you mean I should change the number to 2? But my dad is really not applying.

Another thing confusing me is if I should put my information in the dependents section.

Please help. Thanks a lot.

Your father MUST be included as a family member in your mother's application, so the answer to that question is "2". It doesn't matter that he is non-accompanying.

You are not a dependent and are not listed on IMM0008.
