Dear All.

Like most people here, I am new to the this forum and even newer to the headaches that surround the application for PR in Canada. However, I'm wondering if anyone out there has any advice for me when answering the following questions on IMM 5490 (questionnaire):

9. Describe how your relationship developed after you first contact/meeting.
20. Are you in a common-law relationship?

At the moment I find myself writing lots and lots - 3-4 pages for question 9 - and I'm already up to 2 pages for question 20.

My partner (Canadian Sponsor) and I (Brit) have been together in Korea since 2006, so at the end of our teaching contracts we go to Canada to visit her family and then the UK to visit my family, etc., as well as vacations together. So over the past 3 and a half years we've been on lots of trips/dates. So writing all this information down has left me with pages and pages of information.

Therefore, my question to you is, is there a standard format/layout for answering these questions? Or should I just stick with what I'm doing?

Thanks.

Just make sure you're exhaustive without being too wordy. After all, you don't want to leave something out that might e.g. make them waive the interview.

Hey there.

Yeah, I keep going back to what I've written and trying to re-edit the best I can. I'm trying to get it down to 3 pages, because I keep thinking to myself, I can read 3 pages without getting bored/losing interest, so hopefully an immigration officer will have the same attention span as me!

Thanks for you advice.

I wrote 1 page only lol we just wrote the facts of the relationship without going into huge amounts of detail. I felt that the emails we were sending as proof & letters etc spoke more for the relationship. We included dates and tickets etc to back up when we met up and what happened. It was very factual.

I just described our approach in (waaay too much) detail in a thread by nyssa about PROOF... you should be able to find it easily. Could help you? Or confuse you... dunno. But it's there.

In response to what TLH wrote, here is the link:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/attaching-proofs-sponsorapplicant-proof-of-everything-t30375.0.html

And she's right in that she did a great job explaining what she did for the love story bit! I'd recommend checking that out.

Wow! Thanks to all for your responses.

It's a relief to know that what I've been writing is similar to what most of you are suggesting, although yeah, I think I've written way too much, but it's best to cover everything right?

Many thanks for that link. I'm going to have a good read through that link once the kids (I am a teacher) open their workbooks.

Thanks again.
