Thanks to you both.

Can anyone else weigh in on this? Looking for as many opinions as possible :D In your experience is it acceptable to fill out IMM 0008 by hand or is the barcode necessary? If the barcode is required, what would I want to put in the "TO" field (ie my most recent 'exit' from Canada) if I am still here as a visitor? Could I put the visitor record expiry date?

Much appreciated!

I put TRV's 6 month expiry date in "TO" field. I could have put the date of signing, but i put expiry instead. Plus they can acess all this info instantly to find if person has left before TRV's 6 month expiry.

Thank you for your reply!

Was your application successful?

I 'm not sure, but I think the barcode is absolutely necessary. I wouldn't fill anything by hand. The expiry date from your visitor record sounds like the best option and is probably what they want, since you don't have to fill in that field, if you are a citizen for example. And a visitor status is usually limited to a certain date.

I agree with those who suggested you to put expiry date that you have on your visitor record. You do need barcodes, as that's the purpose of IMM 0008, you need to enter your info and generate barcodes. I wouldn't fill in any app by hand (especially if you have chicken scratch), it might create potential problems in future in terms of misspelling names and addresses and you don't want to create such confusion.

Great, thank you all for your advice.

All my forms are filled out on the computer and printed, however I did fill in a few fields by hand on forms other than IMM 0008 where there was not enough space to type my answer in the PDF (type of degree, name of school for example), and I also wrote "N/A" by hand in every empty field including non applicable date fields on forms other than IMM 0008 (and in empty fields on IMM 0008 itself). Does this sound okay?

Yes that's fine.

I am in Similar situation, adobe acrobat doesnt let me type future date in TO

Hi! Have you found your answer to your question?

Based on my lawyer's advice, I put in an obviously incorrect date ("8888-08-08" works), validated, printed out, then crossed out and wrote in "none" or "present". I also wrote a cover letter where I pointed out that this is what I had done. Remember to validate at the very end. If you correct anything, re-validate. The bar codes enable the IO to populate the fields on their computer automatically. I assume you can fill in the form by hand, but then they have to manually enter the data -- which takes more time and more possibilities for typos.

I still recommend doing in on the computer to produce barcodes. Altho, I remember someone posted here that he/she tried to call CIC if barcodes are necessary and they said it is not. It is more like a more efficient and less-error system but writing by hand is stil permitted. For your idea of putting the last day of visit visa, I would say it makes sense, but better if you put a note why you dated it that way. I'm pretty sure it will be all good :)

Do it online, put the day that you are sending the application in it and then attach another page stating that you are currently here and will stay here until either your visa is up or when you get PR.

What are you asking?

To get around this problem, I just put the date as the date that the application was completed and then generated the barcode. So if you completed and printed your application today, you'd put todays date. It was the only way I could get it to work! You can put a hand written note next to it saying "present" or something if you want - just initial next to it.

If you want to apply in May, just wait until May to print it out and generate the barcode.
