Hi everyone,
Before I start, this post is for ones who are between jobs. So if its not your topic of interest, please dont waste your time and click back on the forum page.
There was a time (last year) when i was in that situation, between jobs, and I was frequently on this site. Like 3-4 hours daily! No job, CIC application stress, No bridge Work permit, changing work permit regulations by Jason Kenny, ahhh! it was stressful! So if you happen to be in that situation, or getting mixed signals from your boss (not happy from work, or economic downturn etc), be prepared to jump the ship. If you have a closed work permit, of course that jump wont be easy (tell me about it!!)
In any case, this blurb is about VOLUNTEERING. Find a good volunteering organization, no matter which province you are. United Way, or Endeavor, Red Cross....or whatever! Give an hour or two each week, but it will enhance and enrich your career in many ways. Not just filling the gaps on your resume, but also networking with potential employers and getting in their circle.
Secondly, if you are under-employed or happen to be working in Canada in a field different from your area of interest, you can use Volunteering to keep your expertise fresh by offering your skills to the organization where you Volunteer. Tell them you are a specialist in such and such would like to offer your expertise to them as a volunteer! You wont only get appreciated, but who knows, you might be working along some big shots in your dream industry, get to know some individuals on a better level and ultimately land your dream job.
Plus, Volunteering is pretty big in Canada. They value you if you have given back to society in this way.
Wish i had known all this during my down time.
All the best to everyone on this forum. Few articles and links for those who are interested to know more.
