Hi all,

I was wondering what would happen if my spouse who also got a PR status decided not to settle in Canada and stay at home country, while I the principal applicant willing to settle in Canada, can I still be able to apply for citizenship after 3 years or even renew our PR cards after the elapse of 5 years provided I did comply with the PR requirement,i.e staying 2 years in Canada.

Regards.

Yes - you can still maintain your PR status and/or qualify for citizenship. What your spouse does will have no impact on your status.

And you can do this only for yourself. You can not apply to renew your spouses PR card even if you meet the requirements. Your spouse will lose the PR if they don't meet the requirements and you will keep yours if you do.
