Dear all,

I'm applying for spousal sponsorship from inland. After receiving the open work permit (OWP), if I have to leave Canada for a few weeks, I understand that there is a risk that my re-entry may get rejected, in which case my whole inland application would be effectively nullified. But will the OWP become invalid, too?

Thank you!

The OWP would remain valid but useless, as you would be stuck outside of Canada.

What if the OP has a valid TRV and a OWP, does the OWP allows them to work?

In this hypothetical situation, OP already has a TRV or eTA and has been refused entry despite having a sponsorship app in process, which is very rare. A second entry attempt soon after is also likely to result in refusal.

In this case, would I be legally allowed to work remotely (from outside Canada) for a Canadian company/institute, then? (Assuming that Canadian company/institute itself has no problem with me working remotely for them). Thanks!

You don't require a Canadian work permit to work remotely for a Canadian company in a different country.
