If my VISA is due to expire while my PR is being processed...

Do I need to apply for another VISA to cover me until it is approved or does Immigration Canada accept that I have an application in process.

Current VISA expires Jan 2016
I am due to send off my PR application this month (processing time is 13 months meaning if all is well it should be approved by Dec 2015)

Yes, you will need to apply for any visa or permit you may need while your PR application is in process.

Apply for a bridging open work permit. Once you get you AOR it is basically almost guaranteed to be approved.

Hi,
yes you can leave Canada while your PR application is in process. Just be sure you have a valid visa on your way back.

Send the application at the soonest. You can then later apply for a bridge extension. This stays valid for 1 yr after expiry of ur visa. so, ur application wd be processed by then.
