Hi! If I land in Oct. can I go back to my home country to spend Christmas with no problem with my visa? Can my husband still claim me as his dependent spouse for the whole year with tax spousal exemption?

Yes, of course. You are allowed to go on vacation just like anyone else :) Enjoy your Christmas

You can go back for Christmas, but be aware that you may not have your PR card by then.

They say that you aren't supposed to reenter Canada as a PR by air without the PR card, but several of us have been able to do so without trouble. Your mileage may vary, of course.

If 'greentea' has landed by then (as in Oct.), why would he or she NOT have their PR card yet? I thought the applicant's passport is 'stamped' upon officially 'landing' in Canada.

The PR card is issued after arrival. Current processing time is around 10 weeks (50 business days).

Their passport is stamped, but the actual PR card is issued via mail and is currently taking about 10 weeks.

Oh my, that may throw a twist into our well-intended optimistic plans. We'll have to be sure to ferret out some details on that upon "landing".
