Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
I just completed my EE profile. I already work in Canada and have for over a year, but I answered "NO" to "do you have a job offer" because I believe my job is LIMA exempt.

It seems that I should get awarded points for having a job in Canada though! Can my employer write a letter to help me out here? I know that he would. I'm also confident he's going to renew my contract for another year in March (I work as a research assistant and contracts get renewed year by year).

How can this work in my favor? I registered with a job bank because I had to to get my profile active, but it seems pointless since I already have full time work in my field of study (I currently hold a post-graduate work permit) that pays well.

Am I missing something here?

Thank you in advance for any insights :)

Are you working on a PGWP? If so, you have two options.

1) Provincial nominee program - OINP is paused at the moment. BC just issued some PNP's. Various other provinces invite PNP's time to time.
2) Have your employer apply for an LMIA for your current job.

Short answer - you can't get EE points if your job is not backed by LMIA (even if your job is LMIA exempt).

Only if you have LMIA for it

I just called CIC and was told that I could actually change my profile to "yes, I have a job offer" even if it's not LMIA approved, as long as my employer writes me a letter that I have been offered full time work. The agent said I would not get the points I would with an LMIA, but I would get points for the job offer itself (which is LMIA exempt since I have an open work permit).

You will essentially get "0" points for the job offer without LMIA. Unless the CIC agent is implying that you will get points for work experience that you gained while you are on PGWP.

Edit:

I would very much welcome points being awarded just for the job offer since I am also on PGWP with a well paying job ;) but that is not true.

No - you won't get points under Express Entry. As others have explained, you need an LMIA if you want points.

FYI - Don't bother calling the CIC help desk. They give out wrong answers all of the time (like this one).
